Gym/Training Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Did my 1st session at Choenrit, I was the only guy there at 8am so it was pretty much a private. Turns out my technique is really bad and I was overextending. I will try out Chinnarch and Diamond in the next two days. So far so good. But the humidity and blazing sun don't help, it's hard to do anything outside right now when you feel like dying. Right now I'm indoors. It also doesn't help that my hotel isn't a party hotel so I will definitely be relocating after this week. Rob told me Lime and Soda is popular with young people.

glad that you are having a good time. and it is perfectly normal to struggle with the heat at first. and the fact that you are doing intense sessions with Thai trainers.

I am interested in the opinion of other people in this thread but IMO it is wise to work yourself into full MT training. Ok to do one session a day until you feel stronger or do shorter runs. getting beaten down physically when you are first starting doesn't do you any good.

Hope that you find a hotel more to your tastes. You were smart to only book for a short time. You just never know about a place until you get there (and your hotel sounds ok, just not what you prefer).

have fun

I just did skipping, no running today. I should have booked 5 instead of 7 days, but it's no biggie. The heat while training inside the gym isn't so bad, it's actually better there than at home because of the open air format. At home my gym is a small room with not much ventilation and no aircon. It's walking around the hot sun and the humidity that does it in for you. The water also tastes funny (bottle water).

Just walked by Diamond and Chinnarch in the afternoon. Diamond just had thai guys and Chinnarch had a bunch of foreigners. It really is low season in Koh Phangan. I might just train, party on the weekends, and just spend 5 full days at the fullmoon party and not train, then leave for phuket. I really don't see too many people around.

Just my 5 cents on observations.

I usually get around in a car with airconditioning and stay indoors. #1stworldproblems

LOL, I lived a chang-ass, moke lifestyle back when I was living on O'ahu. Walked EVERYWHERE because I lived behind Don Quijote in Town, only drove when my girlfriend at the time complained of how sweaty and groady I was hahaha!

Living in town is ghetto, but at least you don't have to go far to do things.

Anyway, did a session at Chinnarch today and it was decent. Lots of other foreigners too and it had a great vibe. Chin just got back from Spain. Going to go again in the afternoon.

Will you be in bangkok as well? I want to see your Winning Fg-5000 ;)

Do you guys take your headgear with you to Thailand? Do ppl give u funny looks when you wear it? I dont have anything against it, in fact I'd love to wear my fg2900 during sparring but don't think I've seen any Thais ever wear headgear

LOL I didn't bring any Winning Gear with me, don't have a big bag and they don't usually spar hard in Thailand. Was actually debating bringing my 16oz gloves, but got too paranoid.

Was in bangkok for the beginning and will be back towards the end of my trip for a few days.

i bought my fg2900 with me but no way i'm wearing it. Too hot. Plus we only doing light sparring.

I haven't seen sparring yet, but I've seen a few headgear at the gym. I don't think you need it.

I will also drive a moped for the 1st time tomorrow, wish me luck.

Drove the moped today, it wasn't too bad. You get accustomed to the speed slowly. Took it for a ride in the hills of Haad Yao and you definitely get around much faster. I was reluctant at first because of the fast traffic, but you definitely need one to get around town.

So far training has been good, the gyms here are very technical and correct my punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. Chinnarch has quite a bit of foreigners there, some of them hot girls. I shouldn't have done 2 sessions yesterday though as I feel like death today. one day at a time.

a scooter is many places in Thailand is really needed. glad that you did ok. I just drive slow and try not to be a douchebag. seems to keep me safe.

if you feel like death it is probably a sign that your training is off to a good start. :icon_surp

Hey Guys,
I'm not trying to make this a big deal or anything... The main reason I'm going to Thailand is because I was asked by one of the ex fighters/trainer to make a little documentry about inspiring others with muay thai for his website. My other reasons is because I'm sick of my life in Australia and want to experience life as a nak mauy.

Anyway, some have said I should also create my own blog so I'm just wondering if I should go with a blog or website? And how about will I get started?

I leave for Thailand on Sunday!! :D

Did Tiger MT ditch RLJones and hire you instead? :icon_lol:

Kidding, kidding! If you already have a website, have a section of it be your blog. Or conversely, keep a blog and make a website when you have a final product. Can't go wrong either way. Which ex-fighter/trainer drafted you?

I think lots of people use wordpress, but I heard blogger.com by google is ok. I'm trying to write a blog, but don't feel like it haha.

Right now I think I'll go with Choenrit since Mochek is teaching me crazy technical stuff.

Sinbi still hasn't gotten back to me about booking a room end of June, I hope I didn't lose that spot.

Thanks Deathstriker!! By the way I believe Ryukyu Damashi knows the area well for accommadation near Sinbi...Should hit him up if or Sing manager of Sinbi.

find him on Facebook "Sinbi Taewoong"

Going back 2011 - I had luck cause I just rocked up with a suitcase and had a room on the spot! if they said "No!" i would of been lugging my sorry ass looking for rooms in that f@cking heat :icon_chee

Ok, they finally got back to me and I got the double room reserved. I got the double room, hope my roomie is cool. Other than that they are all booked out of camp rooms, but I'm sure they will still have the new ultra expensive suite ones.

I could definitely use a change with Sinbi, since I'm like the only guy at the gym right now it would be nice to train with people again. For Monday and the next 10 days i booked Lime n Soda so I can socialize with more young people around my age. I'm also going to Haad Rin for the full moon party so I'll let you guys know how that goes. Decided to stay there since I want to have the full experience.

I feel dumb for booking this hotel, I'm pretty bored here since it's not so popular, gonna take a boat cruise on Sunday though.

Fuckin awesome thread.

I'm a white collar week-end warrior turning 33 soon and I realised recently that going to Thailand to train MT is something that I always wanted to do.

Better move my ass quickly before it's too late. Life is short.

Just be warned that once you start going to Thailand, you will become obsessed with finding a way to return. I'm going on my 11th trip there in a few weeks.
