GUYS LIKE HOMINICK OR VARNER DONT COUNT HERE SINCE THEY ALREADY DEBUTED IN THE UFC A YEAR BEFORE THEY GOT INTO WEC

1. Dustin dominates top ranked Grispi who was slated to be Aldo's first UFC title defense as a big underdog, on short notice

2.gif

2. KZ getting revenge for a bad decision with submission of the year, only twister in UFC history

3. Koch becomes the only man to KO Assuncao with a beautiful counter

4. Former WEC champ dominates a decently ranked Bocek in his 1st fight since the FOTY loss

5. Chad shuts out top ranked Omigawa and ends his streak

6. Aldo makes his 1st UFC title defense against Hominick

7. Dominick makes his 1st UFC title defense, gets revenge against Faber and evens the score

8. Benavidez dominates and emphatically stops surging streak of underrated Loveland

9. Same time, same round, same finish - Bowles guillotines Page in scarily similar fashion in the hematch, again by guillotine, again in the 1st, again in 3:30!!! #spooky

10. Demetrious beats the ghost of Kid Yamamoto

11. On the same card Cowboy wins FOTN in a good and competitive fight with Kelly

12. Also on the same card Miguel completely shuts out Banuelos, completely stifling his offense despite a slow paced and not crowd friendly fight

13. Faber beats top ranked Wineland, another former WEC champ, to earn shot at Dominick. Tho not Fabers most impressive performance Wineland was a top guy

14. Ian makes his anticipated debut drawing with Demetrious in one of the best flyweight fights of alltime, many believing he got shafted by not having an extra round as per tourney rules

I DIDNT INCLUDE SHALE AND STANN SINCE THEY BOTH GOT FINISHED IN THEIR DEBUT.

Others i couldnt put due to limits or didnt deserve to be an option IMO (mostly b/c the opposition was too low caliber):

- Lamas head kick TKOing Grice in his FW debut even tho Grice was a bottom tier fighter

- Nunes/Brown (very close fight Nunes managed to edge out against a top guy, considered putting this in poll considering level of win but it was somewhat controversial decision IIRC)

- Yayha/Brown (solid performance against a MTB on the way down who fought earlier that month against Nunes)

- Garza having one of the GOAT flying knee KOs (wouldve included in poll but he never was a true WEC representative)

- Barao/Cole (first time Barao got dropped/hurt till TJ IIRC, still nice performance against a decent fighter tho a round or 2 were pretty close)

- Jorgensen/Stone (great KO but against a low tier fighter)

- Castillo/Stevenson (decent performance against a former top guy on the way down)

- Roller/Tavares (KOTN)

- Vera knocking out Scherner

- Glover/Kingsbury

- Swick KOing Schoeanuer

Losses:

- Carlos/Kampmann 1 (one of the best WW fights IMO, great close fight that Carlos lost but personally saw a draw)

- Pettis/Guida (lost 2-1 but it was a close fight against a guy with a wacky style whos tough to look good against in his prime)

- Njokuani/Barboza (good and competitive fight he lost and nearly got KOd at end)

- Garcia/Nam 1 FOTN, but strange decision (not officially a loss but widely considered robbery)

Im prolly forgetting a couple but i doubt any significant.

This is tough. Wec has a lot of great fighters

HI allowed option to change vote

This is a tough choice for me. I expect id be changing my choice quite a bit, dont think ill be able to settle on one
I think Koch because he did something shocking!

As much as KZ was incredible, the opponent was not as good.

I do miss the WEC. I dunno if it is just nostalgia but those events seemed amazing.

On topic it has to be the Twister!

I can't recall a bad WEC card TBH. Even back when they had almost all mediocre fighters or had those Halloween Fury's it was consistent quality. It never peaked as high as PRIDE ITO entertainment and high level fights or had the run 03-07 PRIDE did but it came closer than UFCs best stretches/peaks IMO and I'd say it was the 2nd best promotion in MMA for its time and the most consistent promotion ever.,

Nah its not nostalgia

WEC was loaded to the brim

You are not wrong bud!

Henderson vs Pettis, Aldo vs Faber and Bowles vs Cruz events stand out for me (and may have a little walk down memory lane on them when i finish work)

Awesome thread man. It's posts like this that make me wish I drank less, and remembered more.

KZ pulled off the 1st and only twister in the UFC. Not only impressive, but historic.

KZ stole this one with his finish, but it's very competitive. Good thread. Makes me miss WEC

I lost my shit when he landed that. You can tell from commentary Hogan wasnt sure he was gonna get it then last second he was like everyone else when he clasped those hands.

I feel Miguel and Chads performances are underrated. Surprised Koch hasnt got a vote yet and Donald and Demetrious did (but they have more supporters these days).
