There's only one Marlon Brando but Jimmy was a damn solid actor with some elite instruction (Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler and yes, even Brando himself briefly which is how they would up in bed) who wasn't yet near his peak. I think as cinematic realism evolved into the 60s and 70s, he could've really shined as far as the art form goes.

As far as the sexuality thing and being a gay bisexual icon: When you're a young kid growing up realizing that you are, observing how stigmatized it is and looking for some kind of role model as comfort only to find a bunch of stereotypical feminist-cultivated gay caricatures you don't remotely relate to, it's depressing as hell.

But then, here's James fuckin' Dean. BTFO forever. Of course, you find out later on that a whole bunch of badasses and creators of high culture swung that way and it starts meaning a lot less for the better, but you don't forget that kind of adolescent impact on your self esteem.

There's countless actors who came after him that idolized Jimmy. He was a special talent that comes around once in a lifetime.
