Most Annoying (Lawful) Driving Behaviours

I suspect it's often the cell phone these days. That goddamn phone and the net has fucked all our attention spans up. The young are the worst, women in general are next and the men/older folks last, none of them have an excuse.
Absolutely.

Another I’ll mention is when it is one lane each direction and you’re at a light. The person waiting across from you doesn’t use their turn signal, so at the green, it becomes some vehicular version of a standoff. Seconds go by only for that car to then turn on their signal… wasting time while driving grinds my gears the most.

tailgating isn't really legal, at least not in my area, law says two car lengths minimum which isn't strictly done by anyone but it's a good idea when there's no reason, traffic wise, to be up someone's ass.

It's a problem because it makes me anxious that if I had to stop suddenly, they might run into me, or I might take a corner more quickly than I otherwise would because someone is a foot behind me.
Yes that occurred to me, it must be technically against the law, if only because the vehicle behind couldn't stop in time if the one ahead braked harshly. The law doesn't seem to be enforced though, in fact the police routinely do it lol.

Motorcyclists splitting lanes. States that allow splitting lanes.
Splitting lanes is one of the most enjoyable things on this planet
'Filtering' - rolling through between rows of stopped or almost-stopped cars, headed the same way, at jogging speed - seems reasonable to me. Although it is increasing risk slightly. I think people just find it annoying because you're 'jumping the queue'. Driving between vehicles going at 65mph, at 75mph however, is a bit riskier. Much more so if the two lanes are going in opposite directions. People who ride motorbikes on the road obviously enjoy risk, so why not. Just if they get turned into raspberry jam while doing it let them be considered at fault.

I realise motorcycle meat crayoning causes problems for society in general and there are arguments against it, but I'm sympathetic to the bikers (in this case) honestly. Most people do things which aren't good for our health but add quality to our lives.

People eating their lunch and driving. I can understand maybe a snack like a candy bar or something but I see people having burgers and driving. Wtf, dude. Pull over and eat.

Yeah I don’t get why using cell phone is illegal (as long as you’re just talking and not texting), but you can eat a god damn whopper.
There have been a few times when I've seen someone eating a bowl of cereal, a big plastic bowl clutched in one hand and a spoon in the other at a light. I shudder to think of the fumbling around with the bowl in their lap or still in their hand while the car is actually moving.
There are levels to eating and driving; sipping your coffee or nibbling a granola bar on one end of the scale with anything requiring silverware on the other end of the scale.....

Women doing makeup.....I don't see it nearly as much as I did in the 90/00s, but still there and gives me a big laugh. On some level, you gotta give respect for that hand-to-eye coordination going on there!

Technically unlawful, but can't believe many have ever been effectively ticketed for it (impeding traffic, failure to follow road signs).....keep right except to pass (on highways). It's an epidemic out there, with most believing the left hand lane is their own personal coasting lane. Get the fuck over if you aren't passing and certainly if somebody comes up on your ass!!! MORONS!

Isn't tailgating illegal? I know that it definitely goes against the highway code, which rules for stopping distance.

Using a mobile phone is illegal over here too.

My pet peeves

- Drivers in front going drastically under the speed limit.
- Drivers driving in a way that interferes with other people's driving, pulling out in front of people etc.
- Make up behind the wheel. I was stuck doing 30 on a 50 for miles because this woman was applying lipstick and looking in the rearview mirror.

On a side note. I don't care if I'm overtaking someone slower on a dual carriageway and some twat in a BMW comes from behind going above the speed limit and starts bitching. They're speeding, breaking the law and I'm on point. Get fucked.

Everything you mentioned is illegal.

Anybody that leaves more than 1/2 a car length in front them when stopped in traffic.
People who stop dead in a lane in order to merge 100's of meters before a lane ends.

Conversely people who ride the ending lane to the very end.

When you stop at red light and driver usually in pickup comes flying behinds you and stops at the last possible second.

So many people do it here, including cops, I thought it was legal but it turns out it isn't.

Same in Pennsylvania.

I was stuck in traffic on 95 on Friday heading down to a show, and multiple dudes came whizzing by one after the other at what had to have been 35-40 MPH.

All it would take is one person not paying attention to try and cut over to a lane that is moving and those dudes are toast and that poor person in the car is wrecked physically and emotionally.

I agree with @650lb Sumo, filtering at a very low speed is fine. But that is not what goes on in Philly.

You can use a phone while driving if you're not holding it. There seems to be a bit of ambiguity about then am I allowed to tap or swipe it while it is held in its mount for instance. Like to begin or end a call no, but to play a song or do something on sat nav yes?
Everything you mentioned is illegal.
Driving drastically below the limit isn't unlawful (here), and driving in a way that interferes with others isn't necessarily. Or in many cases technically is but the law isn't enforced. Like indicating or failing to indicate correctly at roundabouts, which is my second choice and is an absolute epidemic.

People who place huge fucking food orders in the Tim Horton's drive-through.

Get. The fuck. Out of the way.

Have some consideration for others and take your party inside. Let the drive-through's be beverages only.

I remember 15 years ago or so, me my friend were driving and some dude hitting a bong while driving. We still laugh about that today.

Biking is very popular in my area.

Between 2010 and 2015, 34 motorcyclists were involved in crashes on this route.

Fatal

One out of three related to this kind of thing:

Rider overtakes on solid white line as driver in front turns right.

Serious (but not Fatal)

7/20

Rider overtakes a line of bikes and hits the front one which was turning right.
Filtering rider fails to see car waiting to turn right. Brakes and slides into car.
Rider attempts to overtake a line of traffic at the same time as vehicle in front and is forced off carriageway
Rider overtakes and collides with a vehicle turning right. Pillion receives slight injuries.
Driver turns right without signalling into path of overtaking rider
Driver turns right across path of filtering rider
Driver performs u turn across path of filtering rider

Slight

1/11

Driver turns right across path of overtaking rider

There are several where someone hadn't left enough room between himself and the vehicle in front and ran into it when it braked as well.

Good replies, got my anger up just reading them!

Some that haven't been mentioned:

1) Changing multiple lanes in one motion on the highway/freeway (especially bad if no turn signal's used)

2) Driving city streets or highways/freeways with actual high beams on. The newest brightest low beams suck too, but actual high beams makes me crazy.

Same for dumbasses driving around in the pitch black with just their default "headlights" on, leaving the back of the car pitch black unless the brakes are applied.

3) On an open highway/freeway (like, with no one in front of the car), people who variate their speed constantly between 65 and 75 mph or whatever speed. You are not a serious person.

Improper lane change, hi-beams on city streets, and failure to maintain constant speed are all unlawful.
