A growing number of women are paying alimony and child support when their marriages break up, according to a recent survey of 1,650 lawyers by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Some 54% of the attorneys surveyed have seen an increase in mothers paying child support in the last three years, and 45% noticed an uptick in women paying alimony, AAML found.

One over-the-top example: A female business executive with a seven-figure income whose husband made far less money than she did ended up supporting her ex’s expensive online pornography habit with her alimony payments, Marzano-Lesnevich told MarketWatch.

Marzano-Lesnevich, who represented the husband, said she successfully argued that those “entertainment” expenses were part of his lifestyle, and the court agreed when it calculated the monthly alimony sum. The wife wasn’t happy about it, to say the least, Marzano-Lesnevich said.

“Many women, no matter how educated, how professional, how modern they are, are surprised to learn that they might have to pay alimony,” said Marzano-Lesnevich. “It’s something that has been ingrained for generations that fathers pay alimony.”

"Expensive online pornography habits"

Who pays for porn anymore?

She made seven figures?
Damn!

Who says women don't make more money than men?

Alimony like this is hard to get in most cases from what I've observed, but I've gotten it for clients once or twice.

i was just speaking to some woman at work who's getting divorced, and she mentioned to me that since she makes more than he does, he's looking for alimony.
my reaction as she's telling me this:

Nice to see how that equality feels on the other foot.

<{1-8}> .

It's a start! Now women need to serve the same prison time as men and not automatically be given custody in every divorce case.

This is how it should be. My guess is that the reason fewer women were paying alimony before is due to fewer married women being the main breadwinner for the family. These days, that is changing. And so there are more cases where men are being paid alimony.

It’s basically that married couples usually have one of them sacrifice what would have been their career in order to raise the children. They probably still work part time, but aren’t accruing the experience they would have had they just worked full time. So alimony is paid to help offset the opportunity cost of doing so since they have to enter the workforce as a full time employee now and rely solely on those wages.

My cousins ex husband didnt work. They got divorced and he got a house out of it and also alimony. He American too. Could be an idea for you poor people.

It's completely fucked but since men have been raked over the coals for generations with these laws it's a bit funny to watch it play out. Once a significant amount of women start suffering because of this they'll fix these laws.

i stated 10 years ago when it first started to become clear that women were taking over the grad programs in University and it was clear that many would be graduating and making more money than men that the laws would eventually change making alimony 'fairer' finally once too men are receiving it.

There are all sorts of stories and growing rage about guys sitting at home in their underwear playing video games while living off the alimony of a Doctor, Lawyer, Dentist or otherwise high earning wife. Society won't stand for that.
