In my opinion it is many time also the fact that they are still thinking about their ex and trying to show how they take their new relationship to the next level by immediately starting a family. With a person they hardly know. Most of the time it is a completely wrong move but they stick with it since they don't want to abandon their kid(s) and show their ex that they made a horrible mistake. Also for the women especially the time is running out if you were in a relationship to your thirties and got separated or divorced.

Do you really want to help the world with the overpopulation problem? Go to China, India and the Islamic world and try to empower women and give them control over their reproductive organs.
