A JUDGE has decided not to convict a 19-year-old model who smashed a man over the head with a wine bottle, so she can pursue her career.

Kopare Charlotte Williams, 19, appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday in New Zealand. Midway through a judge-alone trial last year she had pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon.

Another charge of injuring with reckless disregard was dropped by the prosecution.

The court also heard Williams was working at a care facility, which would be forced to let the teenager go if she had a black mark on her record.

Counsel John Farrow said his client used the money from the job to pay for her university psychology studies.

If she lost employment, her intellectual pursuits would be jeopardised, Judge Kevin Phillips said.

On August 27, 2016, the defendant arrived at a party to find her then boyfriend extremely drunk, arguing with another man.

That man, and others at the party, were people Williams had clashed with when she was bullied at high school.

Judge Phillips said the defendant pushed the victim and he pushed her back.

He then called her a “slut”.

Others in the victim’s group told Williams no-one liked her.

She reacted by striking the man in the back of the head with a wine bottle. A woman sustained a gash to her hand in the melee.

The judge said it was clear there was a protracted background to the incident.

Williams had health problems when she was younger and moved schools, where she was targeted by bullies.

“This is not one night’s angst,” he said.

Both victims had suffered as a result of the incident, the court heard.

The man had endured stress and anxiety for more than a year, while his female counterpart had to pay for medical treatment to her wound and had missed out on study time.

Judge Phillips assessed the gravity of Williams’ offending as “moderate” but he said it was outweighed by the likely consequences she would suffer with a conviction to her name.

She was a teenager, had significant prospects and an unblemished record, the judge noted.

He granted her a discharge without conviction on condition she could prove she had initiated psychological counselling.

Williams was also ordered to pay each victim $750.

bit of a bullshit story that she can get off from this story with no conviction at all. where is the justice in that, even if it was a story where it was a girl doing that to a girl, or a guy to a guy there would have been charges and convictions thrown down for sure.

i dont like the fact that the judge is saying basically this wasnt a one of incidence and using the past that she was bullied as an excuse. thats pretty pathetic imo, and not a good call by someone on behalf of the justice system.

what you guys think?

She actually looks like she wants to hit me with a bottle in this pic

yeah, i dont know. im judgmental on this shit for no reason.

i got let off in a situation that i shouldnt have, there is no reason i think others shouldnt get that treatment but i didnt smash a bottle of wine over someones head, and in another thread i made about something similar this lady in a drunk and drug fueled rampage stabbed her boyfriend and was let off due to her being a 'smart and talented lady studying medicine'. and im not drawing on the fact that women are getting preferential treatment in these cases, i heard a story where this guy was physically abusing his wife/partner but the judge heard that the man had a cat and the judge loved cats too so he was given a very lenient sentencing.

Maybe she can use some of those psychology studies to figure out why she's so fucking crazy.

"Women are so oppressed!!"
*women constantly avoid criminal penalties by being women*

yeah men get off all the time. One guy in texas got off for being too rich to know him driving drunk and killing people was wrong. Another case a college kid only got 6 months for rape because he went to a good college and had a good future.

Don’t see what makes this case a big deal. This stuff literally happens thousands of times a day. If the court system didn’t drop cases and make plea deals it would have a backlog of cases spanning decades.

and fuck brock. that was terrible.

both were definitely from well to do families and that had a big part in it, but yeah shits just fucked.

I hope she gets a box cutter to the face

Don't have the details.

So did he suspend the conviction on the grounds that she not get in any trouble in the future for a set number of years ?

If so then that's not rare in cases of first offences depending on the situation .

She'll be doing porn soon so I'm ok with this
