David Fincher Eyeing Channing Tatum to Star in 20,000 LEAGUES

Channing-Tatum-20000-Leagues-Dragonlord.jpg

David Fincher has been developing a big-budget remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for quite some time with an eye towards making it his next film. According to The Playlist, Brad Pitt has now officially passed on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (he recently said he had to figure out his schedule before committing to the film), but the pic is reportedly “essentially greenlit.” With the budgetary situation set, Fincher has now run into a different sort of problem: all the actors he wants are not available to shoot until next year. The report mentions Channing Tatum as one of the names that Fincher may or may not be looking at, which makes sense given that the filmmaker’s buddy Steven Soderbergh is quite fond of the guy.

Fincher is now said to be weighing his options. He can either go ahead and film 20,000 Leagues this year with a different set of actors, or he can push it back to 2014 and try to shoot something else in the meantime. He recently signed on to helm an adaptation of the bestselling thriller novel Gone Girl so that’s a possibility. The sequel to Dragon Tattoo is another possibility, but Fincher has yet to officially commit to that project and Steven Zaillian’s screenplay is apparently in need of a heavy rewrite before production can move forward.

Richard Matheson & Son Pen INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN Reboot

Incredible-Shrinking-Man-Dragonlord.jpg

MGM has acquired the rights to Richard Matheson’s classic sci-fi novel The Shrinking Man with the aim of bringing an updated version of the story that was first adapted on-screen as The Incredible Shrinking Man in 1957. Matheson, who turns 87 later this month, will pen the screenplay with his son, Richard Matheson Jr., keeping the tone of the original story but updating it to modern times.

Matheson is an icon in the horror and fantasy world, responsible for works such as I Am Legend (last adapted into a 2007 Will Smith movie), classic Twilight Zone episodes ("Steel" was turned into the Hugh Jackman movie Real Steel) and Duel, one of Steven Spielberg’s earliest works. The book, written when atomic-bomb fear ran high, centers on a man who is exposed to radiation and insecticide and begins to shrink. The Mathesons will modernize the story to reflect advancements such as nanotechnology.

Universal held the rights to the book for decades, releasing the original movie and trying with Imagine Entertainment to come up with ways to bring a new adaptation to the big-screen. At one point, Eddie Murphy was attached to star as a magician who shrinks due to a spell. In fact, the comedy aspect of this concept has surfaced in recent decades in such movies such as 1981’s The Incredible Shrinking Woman and 1989's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The new Shrinking Man will not be a comedy. The rights lapsed last summer and MGM quietly swooped in.

Billy Ray to Pen Competing Script for THE MUMMY Reboot

The-Mummy-1214-Dragonlord_zps9edc582e-1_zpscf1923ee.jpg

Universal Pictures really, really wants to get their reboot of The Mummy going. Last September the studio tapped Underworld and Total Recall helmer Len Wiseman to direct the redo of the classic monster movie for a possible 2014 release. The film will be set in present day and is described as “epic,” and Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) are on board to produce the pic with Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) working on the screenplay. However, Universal is now taking out a bit of an insurance policy by commissioning a separate, competing script for the film by The Hunger Games and State of Play scribe Billy Ray.

The folks over at Vulture have learned that Universal wants to ensure that production on The Mummy gets underway later this year for its planned 2014 release, and to do that they’ve set Billy Ray to pen a separate script for the film should Spaihts’ draft not shape up to their liking. Both screenplays are set in modern day, but it’s unknown if Ray’s draft is simply a different take on the same story or if it involves new characters and such.

The report also notes that if neither draft of The Mummy works out, the studio could combine the two into a “best of” shooting script. Apparently the thinking is that one of the screenwriters will be the “structure-and-body man”, while the other would be the “character-and-dialogue man.”

2nd Trailer for Robert Redford's Thriller THE COMPANY YOU KEEP

The-Company-You-Keep-Dragonlord.jpg

A new trailer for director Robert Redford’s thriller The Company You Keep has been released online. In addition to directing, Redford also stars in the film as a civil rights lawyer who must go on the run when he’s outed by a young reporter (Shia LaBeouf) as being a former 1970s Weather Underground militant. The trailer teases an engrossing thriller with a stellar ensemble cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Anna Kendrick, Chris Cooper, Terrence Howard, and Brit Marling. LaBeouf looks to be in fine form as well as the film’s lead. The pic also stars Julie Christie, Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson, Richard Jenkins, Stanley Tucci, and Nick Nolte. The Company You Keep opens on April 5th.

Synopsis: Jim Grant (Robert Redford), a civil rights lawyer and single father, must go on the run when a brash young reporter (Shia LaBeouf) exposes his true identity as a former 1970s radical fugitive wanted for murder. Sparking a nationwide manhunt, Grant sets off on a cross-country journey to clear his name. Also starring Susan Sarandon, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, Stanley Tucci, Chris Cooper and Nick Nolte.

First Clip and Viral Video for Pixar's MONSTERS UNIVERSITY

monsters-university-campus-slice.jpg

The marketing campaign for Pixar’s 2013 release Monsters University looks to be in high gear, as they've released the faux-college virals for the past few days. Today another such video has landed online, as we’re treated to “A Message from the Dean,” which plays like all of those cheesy commercials that colleges put out year after year. It does a great job of capturing the spirit of those spots, and it also gives us a look at some new footage from the film. The monster designs look incredible.

Helen Mirren voices the film’s Dean. The recent featurette for the film hints at a major role for that character, so the casting would make sense. The film also features the voices of Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray, and Peter Sohn. Monsters University opens in 3D on June 21st.

1. Jason Statham to Play the Main Villain in FAST & FURIOUS 7

Fast-and-Furious-7-Jason-Statham-Dragonlord.jpg

When Fast & Furious 6 was first announced as being in development, there were rumors that director Justin Lin would be shooting both Fast 6 and Fast 7 back-to-back, but he ultimately decided to only focus on the immediate sequel. That said, it

6. Michael Mann to Direct Untitled Thriller Starring Chris Hemsworth

chris-hemsworth-michael-mann-slice.jpg

Though Chris Hemsworth was geared up and ready to shoot Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi pic Robopocalypse as his next film, The Beard’s recent decision to postpone that project for a few months left a hole in the actor’s schedule. It appears that that hole has now been filled, as director Michael Mann has boarded an untitled thriller at Legendary Pictures with Hemsworth attached to star. Plot details are thin, but the story apparently takes place in the world of cyber threats and attacks.

Per Variety, Mann has been developing the untitled project for over a year, co-writing the script with Morgan Davis Foehl (Mass Effect). Mann’s last film as a director was 2009’s Public Enemies, and he’s attached himself to a number of projects over the past few years that have yet to come to fruition like Gold and the racing pic Go Like Hell. With Hemsworth firmly attached to star, the plan is to start production in June on this new untitled thriller.

7. Hugh Laurie to Play the Villain in Brad Bird’s TOMORROWLAND

Hugh-Laurie-Dragonlord-1.jpg

Director Brad Bird’s secretive project at Disney looks to have found its villain. Previously referred to as 1952, the possibly sci-fi project was co-written by Bird and Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof and recently landed the new title of Tomorrowland. The plot has been kept firmly under wraps, but we know that George Clooney is the film’s star and the story has been described as being in the vein of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Now, as the film marches towards a production start-date later this year, Bird has settled on the actor to play his villain: House star Hugh Laurie.

Per Heat Vision, Hugh Laurie has entered negotiations to play the villain in Tomorrowland. Further details regarding the role are unknown at this time. Bird and Lindelof have been adding fuel to the speculation fire surrounding the film since releasing a couple of curious images late last month. The project apparently began when Lindelof stumbled on a box of documents in Walt Disney’s personal development lab labeled “1952,” and the two subsequently shared images of the box’s contents online.

Production on Tomorrowland will get underway later this year, after Clooney wraps his latest directorial effort Monuments Men. Disney will release Tomorrowland on December 19, 2014.

8. Daniel Espinosa to Direct the John Grisham's THE RACKETEER

Racketeer-Daniel-Espinosa-Dragonlord.jpg

Fox 2000 and New Regency are teaming up to adapt The Racketeer, the latest novel from John Grisham. Double Feature Films, the shingle run by Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher, is on board to produce the adaptation, which also has Daniel Espinosa developing the project as a directing vehicle. Espinosa will exec produce with his manager and producing partner Shelley Browning.

Racketeer sees a federal judge murdered at a lakeside cabin and the contents of his safe emptied. The only man who knows the whos and whys is a former attorney serving time in federal prison who hopes to parlay that into getting revenge on the people who put him there.

The book hit shelves in October with an initial printing of 1.5 million copies. It hit No. 1 on both The New York Times and USA Today best-seller charts and has been on the lists since its release. A search for a writer to adapt the material is underway.

Espinosa is the Swedish director of Snabba Cash who made his directorial debut with Safe House, the Universal action thriller hit that starred Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. He is now in preproduction on Child 44, a thriller set in Soviet-era Russia that will star Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.

9. Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, David O. Russell Reunite in New Film

jennifer-lawrence-david-o-russell-bradley-cooper-slice.jpg

Jennifer Lawrence has a solid shot at winning the Best Actress Oscar later this month for her work in Silver Linings Playbook, and it looks like she’ll be reteaming with a couple of SLP vets sooner rather than later. Deadline reports that Lawrence is set to join the already impressive cast for director David O. Russell’s next film, formerly titled American Bullshit. The pic is based on a real-life undercover sting operation called Abscam, which was set up in the 1980s by a con artist working for the FBI who rooted out corruption in Congress. Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale are set in the lead roles, and now Lawrence is poised to star as Bale’s wife.

Lawrence and Cooper actually already have another film together in the can, as the period thriller Serena will be released later this year. Production on Russell’s Abscam film is set to begin this month with Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams, and Louis C.K. rounding out the cast. Lawrence will then move on to filming the sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will open in 2014.

10. Amanda Seyfried to Join Seth MacFarlane’s Western Comedy

amanda-seyfried-slice.jpg

Amanda Seyfried (Lovelace) is in talks to join the growing cast of A Million Ways to Die in the West, the new comedy directed by and starring Seth MacFarlane (Ted). The Western comedy centers on a cowardly farmer who backs out of a gunfight and subsequently loses his girlfriend. When he later meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who teaches him how to shoot, he gets an opportunity to win his pride back, but must choose between reclaiming an old love or kindling a new one. The plot thickens when the outlaw returns to claim his woman.

Heat Vision reports that Seyfried is in talks to join the cast of A Million Ways to Die in the West as the protagonist’s disappointed girlfriend. We previously reported that Charlize Theron (Prometheus) was in negotiations to play the outlaw’s wife. Both Seyfried and Theron have the comic sensibilities to work well opposite MacFarlane, who also co-wrote the script with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. Production on A Million Ways to Die in the West begins this May.

11. Hayley Atwell to Cameo in CAPTAIN AMERICA Sequel

Hayley-Atwell-Winter-Soldier-Dragonlord.jpg

Last month, it was reported that Hayley Atwell would not be reprising her role as Peggy Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In an interview with TimeOut, she said she wouldn’t be returning. However, Collider interviewed her Captain America co-star Stanley Tucci earlier today for Jack the Giant Slayer, and it looks like her comments may have been a little misdirection or the script has changed since her interview. When asked about the film, Tucci talked about how much he enjoyed working on it and that Atwell will appear in a flashback:

"I loved making that movie. I had a great time. I really like Joe Johnston. I think he’s a wonderful director. I also love the look of the film, and the tone of the film, and the character was great. I was thrilled to be able to play that. I was so sad that I died because I wanted to come back and do another one. It was great to be offered this old, German scientist. I thought, “Oh, that’s great.” I couldn’t tell if I was really flattered or insulted. I don’t know."

"And Hayley Atwell, who I just had dinner with last night, we’ve become good friends. I really love that. I really love the relationship between the two of them. No, they haven’t asked me to come back, unfortunately. I’m really sad. I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene, but I have not been asked."

12. Albert Brooks Closes Deal to Return for FINDING NEMO 2

albert-brooks-finding-nemo-2-slice.jpg

This summer will see the return of some of the most famous characters from Pixar’s catalogue with the prequel Monsters University, but in a few years the studio is poised to revive its most popular film yet: Finding Nemo. It was reported last July that Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton had signed on to helm Finding Nemo 2 as the follow-up to his infamous live-action debut John Carter, and shortly thereafter Ellen Degeneres signed on to reprise the character of Dory. Now, six months later, the other major piece of the puzzle has fallen into place as Albert Brooks has finally closed his deal to return.

Per Deadline, Albert Brooks has closed “a fat deal” to return to voice the character of Marlin in the Finding Nemo sequel. His deal took much longer to close than Degeneres’, presumably because he was holding out for a larger payday in lieu of his recent resurgence as a presence onscreen. Brooks enjoyed an immense amount of critical acclaim for his villainous turn in 2011’s Drive and also picked up considerable notice for his work in last year’s comedy This Is 40.

Story details concerning Finding Nemo 2 are still, unsurprisingly, under wraps, but with Brooks and Degeneres onboard one presumes that Dory and Marlin are once again the central characters. Interestingly, Deadline’s report also notes that despite the box office disappointment of the costly John Carter, Disney will be giving Stanton another shot at live-action.

13. Disney Close to Deal to Make 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA

Channing-Tatum-20000-Leagues-Dragonlord.jpg

David Fincher will require a massive budget if/when he gets 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea into production. Fincher courted his Fight Club star Brad Pitt to headline, partly to secure a big name that would push Disney to greenlight the project. The Australian government is ready to offer a 30% tax rebate worth almost $20 million if Disney shoots the remake Down Under. Fincher plans to shoot in 3D and estimates that the film will be about 70% CG.

Apparently Brad Pitt has now officially passed on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (he recently said he had to figure out his schedule before committing to the film), but the pic is reportedly “essentially greenlit.” With the budgetary situation set, Fincher has now run into a different sort of problem: all the actors he wants are not available to shoot until next year. The Playlist mentions Channing Tatum as one of the names that Fincher may or may not be looking at, which makes sense given that the filmmaker’s buddy Steven Soderbergh is quite fond of the guy.

14. Rumor: BATMAN Reboot to Come Out Before JUSTICE LEAGUE?

Batman-Reboot-0212-Dragonlord.jpg

Last week, it was reported that Will Beall's script for the Justice League movie has been scrapped, and that Warner Bros. wasn't even sure how to move forward with the project. It has been previously said that the rebooted Batman will make his debut in the superhero ensemble, which would make sense considering that a 2015 release was being targeted. However, with new writers being sought out, it would be nearly impossible to have the film ready for 2015, especially with the studio waiting to see how Man Of Steel does before giving a greenlight.

Now, a source tells Batman On Film that, despite Justice League being delayed, the Batman franchise will still continue. However, it appears that the Caped Crusader will next be seen in his own solo film, rather than Justice League.

"Don't worry about the Batman film franchise. It’s Warner Bros.' most valuable DC Comics-based asset. I believe that they are now looking at introducing the rebooted Batman in a solo film, though that will likely take place later than they initially had planned. They are extremely worried how the Batman film franchise would be affect if Justice League bombs...and rightfully so The fact that what should be the core fanbase of a Justice League film isn't on board is making them sweat as well."

BOF previously heard that the Batman reboot will be released 2017 at the earliest, but their latest source claims that we could wait even longer if Man Of Steel is as big of a hit as Warner Bros. is hoping.

"If Superman is huge, then they’ve bought themselves some time and will have a franchise to hang their hat on for seven, eight years. The need for Batman won’t be as great, and [the reboot] of that franchise can wait until the Superman trilogy is done Under that scenario, I’d say around 2019 or so."

15. Sony Developing OLIVER TWIST Reimagining with DODGE & TWIST

oliver-twist-artful-dodger-slice.jpg

Sony is updating Oliver Twist with Dodge and Twist, an adventurous take featuring the characters from Charles Dickens’ classic novel with Cole Haddon, the creator of the NBC’s upcoming Dracula show, writing the script. Matt Tolmach is producing alongside Ahmet Zappa and his Monsterfoot Productions.

The project is set on an idea by Zappa and not on the more serious book of the same name by Tony Lee. Taking a page out of the recent Robert Downey Jr.-starring Sherlock Holmes movies, Twist takes pickpocketing rivals Oliver Twist and Artful Dodger and re-imagines them 20 years down the road. The two are on opposite sides of the law and get embroiled in an affair to steal the Crown Jewels.

16. Felicity Jones Confirms Joining THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Felicity-Jones-Spider-Man-Dragonlord.jpg

In an interview with Dutch website RTL Netherlands, Felicity Jones has confirmed that she will indeed join the highly anticipated sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. The British actress was previously mentioned as joining the cast along with Paul Giamatti, but was not confirmed as being a part of the sequel in the press release which was recently sent out by Sony Pictures to mark the start of filming.

"I've never done a superhero movie. It's very nice to you as an actor in several worlds to go and to experiment," she told the site, refusing to reveal exactly who she will be playing in the movie. While it's possible that she will only have a small role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, this secrecy - and the fact that the British actress is incredibly beautiful - has led many fans to speculate that Jones will be playing the Black Cat.

The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Colm Feore. Jamie Foxx is portraying bad guy Electro, Shailene Woodley is Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan is Harry Osborne. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2, 2014.

18. First Image and Official Synopsis for Eli Roth’s THE GREEN INFERNO

the-green-inferno-slice.jpg

Eli Roth has kept busy these past years with acting and producing roles, but his new film The Green Inferno will be his first feature directing gig since 2007′s Hostel: Part II. Roth has released a brief synopsis for The Green Inferno on his Tumblr: “A group of student activists from New York City travel to the Amazon to protect a dying tribe, but crash in the jungle and are taken hostage by the very natives they saved.”

As you can see from the image, The Green Inferno looks like Roth’s spin on cannibal horror movies. The film stars Lorenza Izzo (Aftershock), Ariel Levy (Aftershock), Daryl Sabara (Spy Kids), and Kirby Bliss Blanton (Project X). Click HERE to see the full image.

19. Sandra Bullock to Voice Villain in DESPICABLE ME Spinoff, MINIONS

sandra-bullock-minions-slice.jpg

Last year, it was reported that Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment were developing a Despicable Me spinoff for the lovable minions. The spinoff, appropriately titled “Minions“, now has a voice for its lead villain. According to Deadline, Sandra Bullock will provide the voice of “Scarlet Overkill, a stylish bad-ass super-villain who is (what else?), bent on world domination.”

The story shows the minions have been around forever, and unintentionally thwarted and destroyed their masters’ plans through adorable incompetence. Set in the 1960s, Minions has three of the creatures going to a villain convention to find a new master, and compete to get the job from Overkill, who aspires to be the world’s first female supervillain.

Minions is due out in 3D on December 19, 2014. The minions will next be seen in Despicable Me 2, which arrives in 3D on July 3rd. Bullock will next be seen in Paul Feig‘s R-rated action-comedy The Heat, which opens June 28th.

20. CRANK Co-Director Mark Neveldine to Helm THE VATICAN TAPES

Mark-Neveldine-0213-Dragonlord.jpg

One half of the Neveldine/Taylor directing duo is set to make his solo debut. Variety reports that director Mark Neveldine will helm the thriller The Vatican Tapes sans his usual collaborator Brian Taylor. The two made a name for themselves with the intense 2006 thriller Crank and continued their signature hyper-stylized camerawork on the 2009 sequel Crank: High Voltage and the actioner Gamer. Most recently the two helmed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, but it appears that they’re ready to see how they fare as solo artists. Neveldine isn’t the only one striking out on his own, as Taylor is set to write and direct a feature film adaptation of the video game Twisted Metal.

The Vatican Tapes has been in development for a number of years. The supernatural thriller centers on a series of events that unfold after a tape gets leaked from the Vatican displaying an exorcism that goes wrong. Though the premise sounds all too familiar given the bevy of found footag/exorcism/found footage-exorcism horror films that we’ve seen over the past few years, Neveldine is sure to bring an interesting visual approach to the pic.

21. First Behind-the-Scene Images of Josh Brolin from SIN CITY 2

Josh-Brolin-Sin-City-0215a-Dragonlord.jpg

Other than a tremendous amount of casting news, we haven’t seen too much out of the camp of Robert Rodriguez and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. All that changed today when the sequel’s co-writer/co-director decided to tweet some behind-the-scenes images from the production. Rodriguez treated fans to some “before and after green screen” images featuring Josh Brolin. The director tweeted: "Here’s bad ass Josh Brolin driving a Rodriguez-mobile. (A green box with a steering wheel bolted on)" Click HERE to see the new images.

Starring Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Stacy Keach, Eva Green and Julia Garner, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens on October 4th.

23. Watch Two Deleted Scenes from WRECK-IT RALPH Blu-Ray

wreck-it-ralph-deleted-scene-slice.jpg

To celebrate the home video of Wreck-It Ralph, Disney is releasing two deleted scenes from the film where a very different-looking Ralph travels to an entirely new game world, "Extreme Easy Living 2," and a social, "Sims"-like game in an earlier version of the movie during a low-point in his adventures. The filmmakers eventually cut the game from the movie, but some previz work is included on the Blu-ray and DVD.

In the first clip, Dunderson convinces Ralph that he is a friend and that Ralph should use his large fists to help bust them out of a game and head to another called “X-Treme EZ,” which is pretty much what it sounds like. The second clip, "X-Treme E-Z Livin' 2," follows the Ralph and Dunderson actually making it to the second game. However, as Ralph soon finds out, easy living may not be as easy as it seems.

Wreck-It Ralph is available for digital download now. The Blu-ray and DVD hit shelves on March 5th.

8. First Trailer for TWO MOTHERS Starring Naomi Watts and Robin Wright

two-mothers-slice.jpg

The first international trailer for director Anne Fontaine’s (Coco Before Chanel) drama Two Mothers has, fittingly, found its way online on Valentine’s Day. The film stars Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two lifelong friends who unexpectedly fall in love with each other’s sons (yes, it’s basically a feature film adaptation of “Motherlover”). The film also stars Xavier Samuel, James Frecheville, and Ben Mendelsohn and will hit theaters later this year.

Synopsis: The story is a gripping tale of love, lust and power of friendship, that charts the unconventional and passionate affairs embarked on by two lifelong friends, LIL and ROZ, who fall in love with each other's son. Afraid of facing the ire and judgment of their insular seaside community, the two affairs continue over the years in secret, until their discovery threatens to tear apart the two lives and families of the young men, who must eventually choose between a well-worn path, or following their true desires.

9. First Trailer for THE NUMBERS STATION Starring John Cusack

the-numbers-station-slice.jpg

The first trailer is now available for director Kasper Barfoed’s The Numbers Station. The thriller stars John Cusack as an ex-CIA Black Ops agent tasked with protecting a code operator (Malin Akerman). When a highly organized assault threatens their lives and the security of the communication center, the two must work together to prevent the attackers from accomplishing their deadly mission. While it looks to be a by-the-numbers thriller, Cusack is definitely an interesting choice as you would expect Nicolas Cage to take this one and run with it. This is one of seven movies Cusack has coming out this year so let’s hope this doesn’t represent his best work of 2013. The Numbers Station is expected to open on April 26th.

Synopsis: After his latest mission goes disastrously wrong, veteran CIA black ops agent Emerson Kent is given one last chance to prove he still has what it takes to do his job. His new assignment: guarding Katherine, a code operator at a top-secret remote CIA “Numbers Station” where encrypted messages are sent and received. When an elite team of heavily armed assailants lays siege to the station, Emerson and Katherine suddenly find themselves in a life-or-death struggle against an unknown enemy. With the station compromised and innocent lives at stake, they must stop the deadly plot before it’s too late.

10. First Trailer for Morgan Spurlock’s One Direction Documentary 1D3D

The first teaser trailer for the documentary 1D3D has been released online. 1D3D is directed by Oscar nominee Morgan Spurlock and will be released by Sony Pictures Entertainment's TriStar Pictures. Spurlock and The X Factor executive producer Simon Cowell are among the producers of the movie. Parts of 1D3D will include footage from One Direction's 2013 world tour, which launches Feb. 22 in London. There will also be a lot of footage from One Direction's 2012 concerts.

One Direction came in third place on The X Factor U.K. in 2010. The group has since become the biggest act to emerge from The X Factor, by having No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries. One Direction's meteoric rise to fame is a much-discussed topic in the 1D3D movie, based on what is shown in the trailer.

The 1D3D trailer shows mostly footage of One Direction from 2012, particularly the group's milestone concert at New York City's Madison Square Garden on Dec. 3 of that year. The trailer also shows the hysterical reactions from the group's mostly young and female fan base, including the nonstop screaming from fans. 1D3D opens on August 30th in 3D.

11. First Clip and Featurette from OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Oz-Weisz-Kunis-Dragonlord.jpg

The first clip from Oz the Great and Powerful premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week when star Rachel Weisz appeared on the show. Weisz plays the witch Evanora, here engaged in a heated discussion with fellow witch Theadora (Mila Kunis). They conflict over the arrival of a Kansas magician (James Franco) who just landed in Oz, and the building tension forces Theadora to tap into her wicked side. The early buzz says Oz is good. Here’s hoping Sam Raimi delivers a fun fantasy adventure. Michelle Williams and Zach Braff also star in the March 8 release. Watch the clip—plus a bit of the interview where Weisz talks about her Machiavellian character and the crazy costumes.

Disney has also released the first featurette for the Oz prequel. It’s actually a fairly in-depth look behind the scenes of the film, as we’re treated to interviews with Raimi and many of the cast members. The focus is on how Raimi brought the world of Oz to life with the help of production designer Robert Stromberg and costume designer Gary Jones, and it’s clear that this was an absolutely massive production. Jones and Raimi also provide insight into designing the iconic Wicked Witch, with Raimi noting that he wanted “a big, scary green witch,” instead of taking a more subtle approach to the character.

12. Five Action-Packed Clips from A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD

Good-Day-Die-Hard-Helicopter-Dragonlord.jpg

20th Century Fox has released five new action-packed clips from A Good Day to Die Hard. Bruce Willis returns as the iconic super cop John McClane, who goes to Russia and teams up with his estranged son (Jai Courtney) to stop a nuclear weapons heist. The weakest movie in the franchise, A Good Day to Die Hard’s spectacle-fuelled silliness can’t overcome its bland story and dull characters. While director John Moore orchestrates a few impressive action set pieces, there’s very little in the way of excitement or suspense and isn’t able to produce any genuine danger. To read my full review, click HERE.

The first clip features McClane chasing the bad guys and wrecking every car in Russia in the process. The second and third clips show father and son fight back after being captured and escaping by leaping out of a window in a high-rise hotel. The fourth is a brief bonding time with McClane and his son. And the last clip features McClane sabotaging the bad guys' helicopter and being tossed around like a rag doll. A Good Day to Die Hard is now showing nationwide.

ARGO and SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK Win at ACE Eddie Awards

Argo-CIA-Dragonlord.jpg

The editors of Argo and Silver Linings Playbook were recognized for best edited feature film, dramatic and comedy/musical, respectively, at the American Cinema Editors’ 63rd annual ACE Eddie Awards, Saturday at the Beverly Hilton. William Goldenberg edited Argo, and Silver Linings was cut by Jay Cassidy and Crispin Struthers.

For Argo, this makes ACE the latest organization to honor Ben Affleck’s Iran hostage drama, which has already been recognized by the Directors Guild of America, Producers Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, where Goldenberg was also selected for his editing of that film. Goldenberg was actually a double nominee at the Eddies, having co-edited nominee Zero Dark Thirty with Dylan Tichenor.

In eight of the past 10 ACE Awards, the winner of the best edited dramatic feature category has gone on to win the Oscar in editing. Once in the last decade it went to the winner of the comedy or musical category (Chicago). At six of the past 10 Eddie Awards shows, the film that won either the dramatic or comedy/musical ACE categories went on to win the Academy Award for best picture. No film has won best picture at the Oscars without also having received at least a best editing nomination from ACE since Ordinary People in 1981.

Interesting. A non-Red Ermac and a villaineous Liu Kang. This gonna divide fans so much.

Noticeably missing from that trailer was Michael Jai White as Jax and Darren Shahlavi as Kano , although I assume they will have small appearances for this second season... but hopefully they will still move ahead with a full length Hard-R rated movie and bring back those two actors for those characters.

Also it looks like Sub Zero's costume is straight from Scott Adkin's "Ninja", and they recasted Johnny Cage with George Michael.
