Some news sources who rarely report on MMA have reported on the tragic death of Carvalho and this has led to some beyond ignorant comments on MMA and the situation in general.

This is a great one from someone on Facebook called Lar Kelly Lisa Griffin :

Absolute disgrace how this 28yr old man was allowed to be beat to death in a so called professional sport?? Just look at how the rules allow the fighter to cont...inuously pound the poor blokes head in as he lay helpless on the ground....
Mark my words that fight will be the end of that so called sport, you wouldnt find this type of savagery in boxing, hell ya wouldnt even find it in street fighting, terrible terrible end to such a young life, MMA has no place in Ireland and fuck Conor McGregor the arrogant dickwad, how would he like to die, fucking prick, excuse my language, RIP Joao Carvalho....

If you have no idea what you're talking about, why would you make public statements on something?

She is attacking Conor for no reason first off, and if she rarely reports on this sport why is she reporting on this.

THAT WOMAN WORK AT NEW YORK STATE LEGISLATURE ??

lol

Edit : oups cap lock

1st RIP for that fighter..He truely died for the food nothing but respect for that brave man...Other than that no doubt people will attack the sport for sure and I am open for changing some rules if fighters life is threatening...

Usually douchey news reporters and blow-hard politicians start running their mouths fervently after any death in combat sports.

Brings the betas out in droves.

Is normal.

Conor said it best in his condolence remarks. It's a super tragic event, but also an extremely rare occurrence in MMA.

An verbal attack on Conor is all you were able to deduce from this tragic incident?

She's definitely a bit over the top venting her anger, but you're just flat out moronic.

Its the Internet. It's a great outlet to release their frustration without the consequence of being held accountable for their words. If someone confronts her, she can always ignore, or turn the computer off.

RIP.

Only saw some clips. Maybe the ref could of stopped the fight a little earlier.

Part of what many people ("we") like about "extreme" combat sports is seeing people getting beat up. There's no way around it. Obviously goes for the likes of boxing too, there's a reason Mike Tyson is probably the most famous boxer of the last 30 years - and the reason isn't him being a great technical boxer. The reason is "just bleed".

When someone gets beaten to death inside the cage/ring, we hate it. But we like the possibility that it might happen, although we don't want it to.

Sure, more people are getting killed by riding horses or crossing the streets or driving Formula 1 (RIP Schumacher), but those are accidents. MMA is people actually (in a "playful" way) trying to kill each other, and I can see why someone would take offense to that.

Has she advocated against pro wrestling also?

Skydiving?
Drag racing?
Skiing?
The Indy 500?
Football?

Might at least see some rule changes after this. Maybe no strikes allowed on the ground. Once it hits the ground only wrestling and submissions. If a guy gets KO'd on the feet so be it but no more "going for the finish" once a guy is hurt and falls down and beating him till hes unconscious. I could kind of see where that is just too much. It would still be mma and youd still be able to test each other in every area. Lets be honest ground strikes dont take much technique or skill.

yea we're going to pretend mma is the only sport that has rare but tragic deaths

There doesn't need to be any rule changes in terms of safety. None.
It's like saying Formula 1 should cut the maximum speed limit to 60 mph just in case there is another fatality.

How many sanctioned MMA fights have there been since UFC 1 ?
Many many thousands.

How many deaths?
Five. None of which occured in the 'big' organisations.

With that statistic, it's beyond absurd for anybody to be calling for the sport to be banned or somehow made safer than it already is.

I don't think Shumacher died, unless it's a different Shumacher.
