MMA standup is underrated

People still think Floyd didn't carry Conor?

Also, Holyfield(a legend, ATG, and best HW of his era), had no business being in a ring, unless it was to accept a lifetime achievement award. Dude is ancient, and has obvious CTE. He is boxing's Chuck; only significantly older and more battle-hardened. Vitor should be embarrassed by that win.

So we have some great examples of MMA fighters "holding their own" and/or winning against past their prime boxers. Does anyone here actually believe an MMA fighter can waltz into a boxing ring with a current and in their prime boxer and hold their own, much less win? If I put a gif of Timmeh getting KO'd does that mean I have an argument that boxers can win in MMA against good fighters?

Timmeh, though past his prime, was still game at that point, too.

With smaller gloves and the threat of the takedown the footwork in MMA is harder to develop and master than a single combat sport so there's always a bigger chance of a punchers chance in MMA or kickboxing than boxing so it's more difficult to remain undefeated in MMA or kickboxing, it's always the punches you don't see coming that get you and when you're dealing with knees and kicks, there's more chance you'll see a strike that isn't coming. Plus the skill gap disparity between boxers for building up prospects is much more evident.

Terrible examples provided though.

Yup and mma guys have beaten world class boxers. Artem beat Paulie Mag. Anderson beat a former world champ Julio Cesar Chavez, Greg Hardy beat Rahman. Vitor knocked out Holyfield

Conor went 10 rounds with the GOAT boxer and hurt him twice

braindead take

Even if you were trolling

I agree that MMA striking is underrated, but that's mainly because people don't understand you can't make a direct comparison with pure striking arts.

Saki however isn't one of the GOATs, IMO, though he was a great kickboxer. He just isn't in the same conversation as a Hoost, Aerts, Buakaw or Petrosyan (and others, just not feeling like sttarting a discussion on who is and isn't). He was also old, shot and severely seemed to underestimate MMA as a whole. Maybe he was even just doing it as a money grab.

Yes he did. Floyd was weary of trading with Conor until he gassed and was hurt twice by Conor. Before Conor, Floyd hadn’t been stunned by a punch since the Mosley fight.

why the hell did it take 10 rounds for the GOAT boxer to beat Conor. Probably wouldn’t have finished him if Conor didn’t blow his wad. Now we see Floyd in Japan knocking out guys in 1 round
He carried him because of the chance at another $300 million in a rematch.

Rogan used to say that "Nick and Nate Diaz hang with Andre Ward in sparring".

I love you bro

I don't agree with you on everything

But you're elite

It's a dumb comparison.

If boxers had to deal with kicks and takedowns their whole game would fall apart.

I thought it would be a thread about Brendan Schaub comedy shows.

Not to discredit Rountree though. Dude is a hell of a striker when he is on.
