I have heard that in Chinese boxing they would use makeshift gloves made of straw also hundreds of years ago...
The fact is Bruce adapted these style of open finger gloves in the modern era and set a template seen by millions that likely inspired the type used in modern MMA

Yes that is clear from Pankration etc but I did say in the modern era. If you can find me an example of open hand gloves used in martial arts in the last century that were suitable for both striking and grappling before Bruce then I will change my opinion otherwise I go with him being the modern inspiration for their use.

necessity is the mother of invention. They needed gloves for NHB fights so they made them. its not as if without bruce lee they wouldn’t of solved the riddle, lol.
