Oke so... wtf.

Just saw these excerpts from a sparring session between TJ Dillashaw and K1 Champ Takeru.
Forget the fact that TJ is being a little bitch and cheap-shotting after the bell. That is a topic all its own.

What worries me is:
HOW THE FUCK IS A WRESTLE-BOXER with 5 years of striking training clowning a dedicated kickboxer and champ in a respected promotion...?

I love Takeru and hope it had to do with jetlag or something but truth is he didn't look good in the vids

TJ is good though and fighting in K1 doesnt make Takeru invincible

Isn't it just sparring? if it was actual competition then it would be a different story.

Somebody has never sparred/fought before to understand the difference...

There's a longer version of this out there where Takeru kind of explains the situation. He is basically saying (in Japanese) that it started off as a sparring session that got a little more heated along the way and that TJ started going hard as if he were in an actual fight, he realized that when TJ took the cheap shot . He also says that he wasn't necessarily annoyed by the cheap shot and that appreciated the hard sparring from TJ.

Either way - a douchie move by TJ, who from what I hear has a reputation for doing that kind of thing - being a gym bully and cheap shotting.

lol

dude dont know what a sparring is...

Takeru fought at 55kg not too long ago and TJ was going a lot harder than Takeru. AlsoTJ is a great striker in his own right of course.

it's sparring, calm down.

also this. TJ would probably do just fine in K1.

I spar often and usually hard. I know when some asshole starts going too hard and making it a fight, you either match his tempo or get whooped. Can’t believe you people don’t realize this and excuse Takeru’s shit performance vs TJ on ‘it’s sparring’. That’s a bullshit reason.
Ain’t no ‘light’ sparring between pros when one guy starts trying to knock you out and cheap shots you. Any normal fighter will raise you if you do that and return the favor. Takeru was trying, and simply couldn’t do shit to challenge Dillashaw...

So back to my original point, it’s baffling how someone who only dedicates roughly half of their training time to striking still beats a full-time kickboxer.
Is the talent pool that shallow...?

Makes me wonder; how would Dillashaw do vs the top Glory guys like RvR and Petpanomrung...?

This is what happen when you take little snippet of video and show TJ bitch move going hard in the middle of sparring and punching after the wistle. Watched the entire series, and Takeru had been nothing but polite and actually hiding his real abilities the entire time. After that sparring session though it was TJ that was gased out and Takeru took his anger out at TJ trainer going full blast at the pads which he never did before, showing he could go further rounds with TJ and even harder if he wanted to. Bitch move by TJ to pull IMO, doesn't prove anything, apart from TJ cardio being worst that expected.

You could probably find a video of a beginner farang "clowning" a good stadium fighter in sparring lol. Even me, only having had amateur fights, have "looked good" in sparring against top fighters. Not saying this is the case, TJ is obviously a good striker, but he was clearly going harder than Takeru, who was having a fun time. Sparring doesn't prove anything

I don't know much about the weight class Takeru is fighting at but from what i've seen his competition isn't that good. I think the whole division is built around Takeru, Taiga and Kaito

That’s a whole lot of implications for someone you don’t know. You are known to trash talk Kickboxers.

you are new to combat sports dude

bruce lee Avatar and judging fighters "performances" based on a sparring section makes it clear to see...

TJ is a very good fighter. His striking is some of the highest level in MMA and he could easily translate to K1 and have some success.

With that said, man what a fucking douchebag sparring partner he is. I try so hard to like him, and he seems like a cool enough guy, but then you watch shit like this....

Come spar with me and we’ll see. Dude.

Also, watch the full video.
Duane Ludwig completely supports my point with the phrase “if you partner hits too hard, fucking hit him harder!”.
That’s what high-level sparring is like. It’s a fight simulation. It’s supposed to be 1:1 with what will happen at fight night for these guys. So yes, I will judge fighters by sparring. If I do better vs someone in hard sparring, you can bet I’ll take him in an actual fight because it’s almost the same thing.
@ me motherfuckers

Not trash talk. I’ve shared my observations. The fact you’re clinging so hard to your conclusions is your own business. You have that right.
In this case, Dillashaw is predominantly a kickboxer, trained by Duane a former kickboxer and pupil of Bas Rutten. The baffling part is that he shouldn't be better than Takeru in his own sport, given that TJ has to make time for grappling.
