Wrong, boxing technique is lacking in MMA, everybody seems to love the overhands.
^ This ^ i was just about to say that. Guys lack the fundamentals, and can't box for shit. It sometimes gets hard to watch, seeing how atrocious guys can be. Not only they are not throwing the right combinations, they have no defence. The average mma fighters defence consists of, moving back and out the way so you are not in range. But that should be your last ditch effort defence. A good defence is being able to stay in the pocket. Either parry attacks, or use head movement. This way you are still in range to throw your own counter shots.
But because guys don't do this, is why we often see these fighters, just throwing one punch at a time, just looking for that knockout shot. And these type of attacks, are the easiest to defend. Then guys like Conor come and school everyone, not because he is a great boxer. Just because everyone else sucks. Then when he did actually meet a solid boxer in Nate, he got cracked. Because even he lacks basic defence of putting your hands up to protect your face. Thats why he was hit by guys like Siver, Brimage, and Mendes. He has good offence, but he needs to work defence more.
So that is what is lacking, is solid boxing. Once you learn to defend kicks, a good boxer will defeat a kickboxer anyday. I think guys would benefit tremendously, after they are competent enough with ground game and wrestling, if they would just focus on boxing for a little while. Not striking, just purely boxing. The timing to slip and duck under punches also gives you the ability to slip and duck into a takedown. That was why GSP was so good at takedowns, because of timing. Yes boxing will make your wrestling better in MMA! Look at Mayweather, when he ducks and then clinches a guy. Imagine if it was MMA, if a guy did that, you can also trip and take them down! Because you can duck straight into a double leg, or double underhooks, so you will have superior position every single time.
