Hi everyone,

I want to start training mma as an amateur. Thing is, every time I talk to a bjj/ judo/ mma practioner, they always have a broken something, some of them pretty bad.

I got a few minor injuries from the gym and other sports, I don't mind taking some risks. My question is though, is there a way to train mma without getting serious injuries?

I want to learn striking, wrestling, and bjj, but not to the level where I would fuk my body for life. I trained some wrestling one summer, and the teacher was teaching us a takedown where you push with your elbows strongly just above the opponent's knees, he had us drill it dozens of time in a row. My knee got injured and I had to quit gym for 6 months, recovered fully but I found the teacher to suck really bad.

What are you guys experience on this subject?

Thanks

Hey man dont be worried about injuries in every sport you get injuries soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball, you can even get injuries while working out. Did you know that more cheerleaders die in a year than MMA in the past 50 years? if i was you id be more scared of other sports than MMA find a good gym tell the trainer that you have had a knee injury and you want to take it easy he will understand, MMA is not about injuring the other person most of the people who do MMA do it for self defense such as just in case they get into a street fight or need to defend them self from something. theres a ling to a video made by Shane from Fights Tips fast forward the video to about 25 seconds and watch it from there its only about a minute long. Also im 16 i train with people who are over 20 im the youngest in the class my weight is about 60kg and they are all over 80kg and i have no injuries. And also sparing is optional you do not have to fight or spar you can just go and train trust me the chances of you getting and injury are very low.

If you are training for serious amateur competition, you will probably receive injuries on occasion, but nothing to serious (sprained finger, knee injuries, hyper extensions). But if you are saying you just want to learn to do MMA for your own enjoyment, it's perfectly possible to learn the techniques and enjoy light sparring without ever being injured.

hi, have u heard of non-contact training solution lately, this has very less risk of getting injured, the mma or fitness training is done keeping the safety in mind always.. the keys approaches are like... finding a suitable coach, an environment, a friendly partner etc.. so if you have made up your mind to take up mma ...u can check a couple of things before you start off here..http://www.arenafitnessmma.com.au/training-basics-mma-beginners/

personally i also want to play safe and try to respond to changing conditions of my body.. this has helped me a lot.

I did Judo as a kid and don't remember getting injured, even though I went to a good club where people didn't exactly take it easy on you. That's youth for you.

It's a different story now. I've been doing bjj off and on for 10 years and it's tough to string even 2 good weeks together. It's one thing or another and usually one thing on top of another. Usually I feel 100 years old. Competitive sports are unpredictable and that's something you have to factor into your decision.

Yet the people who think it is "degenerate" to have chick MMA are a-OK wit the brutal sport of Cheerleading.

The people who think mosh pits are the work of Satan will gladly send their kids to pee-wee football.

listen dude

You can have sex with multiple women without picking up STDs or other problems

likewise you can train in MMA and various combat sports without getting injured at all

everything 100% depends on your partners

if you go to a large gym, it will be packed with assholes 100%

it's like going to a swinger party

if you go to a Gym with 2-4 regulars in it the chance of getting along with them is high and you probably won't get injured and you will pay a lot less and enjoy it a lot more

Like wise , if you have sex wth 2-4 close friends you probably won't have STDS and pay less and have more fun

Stay away from large crowds

Things I have done to avoid injuries: roll with people your own size. Avoid serious weight difference if you train with newbies in particular. Try to chill out when you sparr, dont overcommit to subs or finishes, leave your ego and prestige at the door so to speak. Also, if the instructors at the club seem to lack experience chose a different club. Avoid doing that "extra round" after class, when you are exhausted. Most people Ive seen get injured have been so when they are fatigued...

Not saying these are rules or anything but they work for me...
