LIke many I was astounded and intrigued by David Paulides work on missing 411. The first time I was exposed to it I felt a fear creep down my back thinking of something or someone taking people out of the forests. It had captured my imagination. the notion of people going missing in the forest under VERY difficult to explain circumstances that excluded kidnapping, predator etc blew my mind. and as a person who spends a ton of time in the woods it seemed relevant.

So when I first was exposed to "The Missing Enigma" channel my initial reaction was to defend Paulides from what I saw as a person ripping off his material, wrapping it up in better packaging and reselling it. I even left a few comments to that effect below some of the videos. But then I actually listened to the content and after a few minutes I realized that many of the details of cases where both the enigma and paulides had covered the same story were very different. And after listening carefully I found that Paulides was leaving out many VERY important details that change the narrative of certain cases greatly. In fact MOST of Pauledes cases are missing very important info and maybe only a handful of them are presented accurately. This was/is not and enjoyable realization but it is an important one.

Here is a video from the "Missing Enigma" channel on YouTube. His very thorough work calls into question much of what David Paulides claims in his books and documentaries but without making any accusation towards Paulides of any kind. This guy is VERY respectful but he clearly shows that Paulides leaves out a TON of relevant data and that he also violates his own stated criteria for excluding certain cases due to drug and alcohol use, foul play, mental illness etc.

Here is one of his videos about the hunter that went missing in "The Crazies". from "Missing 411 The Hunted" The Missing Enigma's much more thorough and honest presentation of the facts makes Paulides look like he is lying or incompetent or both in his accouting of the same story. I say this reluctantly as Paulides has made a deep impression on me and I am very sorry to see this kind of info presented debunking most of his stories.

Contrast this piece with Paulides account in Missing 411 The Hunted.

details excluded from paulides account include-- a pack mule wreck that lost much of their survival gear, serious dissent between members of the camp, the missing man was detoxing from alcohol and experiencing dt's, the hunters were on illegal land and lied to officials about where to search initially and did not report the missing man till the day after they got home, mental illness medication being taken by the missing person all of which violate Paulides stated exclusionary circumstances.

other details excluded include the reasons for the hunter veering off of the trail ie he could have seen an elk!! and the reason why he might have taken off his boots ie to put moccasins on for stealth hunting as they were bow hunting. his so called "friends" just left and never even bothered to look for him.

So youre telling me conspiracy theory nut jobs leave out facts that dont match their wack job version of the "truth"?
Im not sure how to react to that

no im looking for a more nuanced discussion than that but you can make any points you want to.... keep in mind that this guy paulides is being invited to give lectures to many search and rescue groups around the country. i find this fascinating.

also please keep in mind that paulides has steadfastly REFUSED to engage in any kind of talk about ct's or explanations (rather coy i think) so its fake news to call him a ct nutbag. my guess is more of an opportunistic grifter...

I think I saw one of the documentaries on Amazon. I forgot which one. it was pretty interesting. it started off great with some interesting stories. like that hunting party that split up, one of the party members was and older dude. long story short, the party reconvenes but the old dude completely vanishes. they call the authorities and they initiate a gigantic search party. but there's no sign of him or his belongings what he wore etc.

the documentary kind of trailed off when it went into Bigfoot and Aliens territory.

You just saved me like 90 bucks in books

good choice. i never bought any but did watch the documentaries. check out the missing enigma because then if he tells you a case is really strange you will know it actually is.

Is 411 still a thing? I’m sure older folks probably use it but I remember back in the day, it was still popular.
