Post-modernism is a creation of the far right that was picked up by left and had a fad period in academia, which then died out amid much ridicule. It was always a better fit with the right (the left never really had much to say about culture so some leftists appropriated far right-wing critiques of capitalism and awkwardly reworked them).

People had forgotten that the imposition of market economies on people inspired a powerful movement in opposition on both the right and the left. The right opposition eventually died and right-wingers adapted their worldview to the new order (with capitalists standing in for aristocrats). We're now seeing a revival of the old-style right. You've been gone a while, but if you read through the group, you'll see that the big split is between liberals on the right and left on one side and the illiberal left and right on the other. Obviously, there are smaller splits within those groups, but look at how many right-wingers are celebrating the mob stuff.
