Mike Tyson HL

No matter what people say about him these days in regards towards his actions and personality the fact still remains that he is still one of the greates boxers of all time!

Didn't really see much of Tyson in his prime since I was basically a baby. But why don't most boxing historians and critics consider him one of the greatest HWs of all-time?

Top 10-20 is nothing to sneeze at when you look at all the great champions in that division.

In order to be one of the GOAT's you need to have it both physically and mentally. Tyson never had it up top and some question if his physical tools were even all that great.

so name me sum gr8 heavyweights who had better physical tools? and while ur at name a heavyweight in the last 25 years who owned him in both.. easy to diss the man with hindsight

Was the HW division thin when he became such a young champion? Or was it his off-the-ring incidents that made Tyson what he is today?

This.

And he had such a short time that can be considered his "peak." There was no adaption of styles as his physical skills declined, as you see with the truly greats. No longevity, questionable resume while he was at his best, and a mental head case.

seriously?

Hindsight? I'll tell you what, let me hop in my Delorian and jump back in time right quick. Maybe then I'll be able to give you a more accurate opinion:redface:

Holmes is the only "great" fighter he beat... but it's pretty tough to think of many heavyweights that beat more then one other "great" heavyweight that was even close to his prime.

Did Louis beat any "great" heavyweights? does Frazier's two loses to ali erase that one win? etc.

Dont give a fuck what anybody says, Tyson in his prime could have gave anybody problems.

Like others have said tho, his prime was too short lived and he lacked the ability to adapt as his body changed.

Floyd Patterson had as quick, if not quicker hands than Tyson.

True about the physical tools. He was faster/tougher than many HW. Was pretty accurate too.

There other boxers that have great tools, but not the mental discipline- Zab Judah comes to mind.

Tyson is easily a top 20 HW of all-time not sure bout top ten my list goes
1 Louis
2 Marciano
3 Ali
4 Holyfield
5 Dempsey
6 Walcott
7 Liston
8 Frazier / Foreman (Frazier accomplished more but Foreman massacred him so i have em about a tie
9 Holyfield
10 Patterson / holmes not sure

but tysons physical gifts were without question among the best of all time his power and hand speed combination is unrivaled kind of like Ali's foot movement around the ring or lennox lewis's jab but mentally he didnt have it he accomplished enough to be in the top 15 - 20 but #1 as far as exciting to watch

Louis held the belt for 11 years when the division was tough beat men like Baer, Braddock, Carneara , Walcott, Billy Conn, Max Schmeling ( in the worlds most important fight ever ) ......... theirs no comparison Louis broke racial boundaries and was a great american heroe before his downfall theirs no way to compare the two

I'll be honest. I think your list sucks. No, its not only because you have Holyfield on the list twice.
