I would love to see a fighter who has a high level of martial arts mentality be an inspiration to the kids, not a douche who disrespects his opponents and is full of himself. Not saying Mike Perry is like that...at first I thought he was, but now he's kind of growing on me because I see that he's smart, and not the asshole I first thought he was. The jury's still out though on if I'm glad that he's a role model for a lot of kids. His story is a good one and he should be admired for rising from the ashes the way he did, and for making something great of himself, but if he turns out to be a douche after all I'll be extremely disappointed that a lot of kids are looking up to a douche. This is a man who, as a child, was constantly bullied for basically being white. As a result, he learned to fend for himself. He also had a difficult upbringing due to bouncing back and forth between his parents' homes in Michigan and Florida.
Directionless, Perry decided to go down the wrong path. He paid the price for it and had to serve jail time for a burglary. When he got out, he received a new lease on life
The truth is people had every reason to assume he would end up as a cautionary tale but that's not the way things turned out. Perry turned his life around and is now living his dream.
This is what makes 'Platinum' Mike Perry an inspiration.
PMP is still a kid himself. And he is going to be rough around the edges. But I think he is a legit good guy. He does some things like pulling his hand away from the shake in the weigh ins, but he is just trying to make a name for himself. I guess we will all see how this unfolds in the next few years.I would love to see a fighter who has a high level of martial arts mentality be an inspiration to the kids, not a douche who disrespects his opponents and is full of himself. One loss that he has learned from doesn't mean he's done for.People have short memories. Plat nation is done for.
