The red flags for Mike Perry continue to be raised. I have a little bit of sympathy for the guy because I remember him explaining his to Helwani how he had a bad childhood/abusive dad - he clearly needs some therapy as the lack of role model/childhood trauma and lack of support as a kid probably plays a pretty big role in the Mike Perry of today.
But he is also extremely impulsive with his decisions and seems to lack even the most basic of rational thinking.
After one of his recent UFC fights he’s talking about owing the tax man a ton of money - then on IG he’s buying his new girl a brand new car and moving into a pretty sweet looking apartment in Miami?
Appears to have very little self control (knocking out old fat dudes in bars), getting into fights with bouncers, kicking through glass doors etc.
Add into the mix his new found lack of respect for the sport he once seemed pretty serious about (girlfriend as his cornerman, zero attempt to cut weight or take his career seriously), a baby on the way and the UFC looking to make a significant number of cuts to the roster..
This story really does not end well people make jokes about War Machine but I’m pretty sure he is heading that kind of route at the rate he is going. He needs therapy and the UFC need to try help sort him out before they look at making a decision like cutting him based on how increasingly erratic he has been lately.
It’s a shame because fans enjoy watching him fight on the whole, he always comes to fight a war and his boxing when he first came into the sport was looking pretty sharp... but appears to have lost all guidance/serious commitment to the sport that genuine coaches and teams provide.
