For that price, you can get a i7 laptop and use the rest of the money to upgrade to a nice 240gb SSD...

And that shit comes with windows 8? Nah, fuck that.

I've been thinking about getting one, but I've pretty much decided I'd rather go for a 11-13 inch laptop convertible with touch. Something like the Dell XPS12.

Gonna wait until the haswell parts start shipping Q2 next year though. Lower TDP, more performance, and they'll probably work any potential kinks out of hinges and shit like that.
Oh, and hopefully by then more manufacturers will include thunderbolt so you can get a sweet external GPU for video editing and gaming and stuff.

I really wish they would have made this with Windows 7. I have the Asus Transformer with the keyboard dock and hate Android on it but love the concept of the tablet/laptop option. Windows 8 doesn't look to promising either.
Can you buy them at other places yet or are they still at Microsoft stores only?

isn't your hatred towards Microsoft completely anchored by your hatred of Xbox?

anyways, I've been using my Macbook here & there more often

still cool but I prefer my Zenbook.

I may hold off on W8 for a bit

I really like the 13 inch macbook air.
Just a shame you have to run OS X on it.

^^ Parallels?

I wish Microsoft would at least do something like that.

Windows 8 is optimized for tablet use. At least give it a shot. It can do everything your desktop can do.

You can easily run Windows on your Mac by installing it on a separate Bootcamp partition or virtualize Windows with one of these three different programs; Parallels, Sun VirtualBox or VMWare Fusion 3:

Of course if you're into graphics-intensive PC games then do the dual-boot, because you might see some lag in the virtualizing programs listed if you don't have a top of the line iMac or Mac Pro.

For all the cult flak Mac/Apple catches they do combine slim size, battery time and build quality that you have to pay mucho

I'd wait a bit. Looks like it's not really got all the kinks out. Lots of complaints on the casing and whatnot are still surfacing. Wait another 4 or 5 months. Maybe you'll find something better along the way. Seems awfully expensive for its kind of product.

The Microsoft Surface blows the iPad out of the water.

Cannot stand the Microsoft hate on this board. They have been consistently making better products than Apple the past few years.

What kind of products are you comparing it to?

The standard tablet. Its go-to selling point seems to be the fact that its a "tablet and a laptop" when it's, from the looks of it, essentially just a tablet with a keyboard which you could buy separately for an iPad 4 totaling about $600

Plus there's always some wrinkles that need to be ironed out in new products. Chances are that the battery life will be improved within the next few months among other bugs. This Surface has only been out for 4 or 5 months, IIRC.

Compared to an iPad or a transformer it's a completely different beast. You can do ANYTHING on it that you can do on a desktop PC (except for running graphics intensive games.) It makes the other tablets look like microwaves in terms of capability.

Well to be fair, that's absolutely awesome. But why not just buy a laptop then?

This makes me wonder how many people praising iPads actually own iPads. You can't do anything on them.

The apps are even worse. Extremely limited pieces of software.
