Why did history programming move away from this contemplative style to rapid cuts, cheap re-enactments and CGI distractions... These old segments are works of art by comparison.
The soundtrack sounds like Vangelis or something. Trippy, moody, atmospheric music, another thing you won't find on the History Channel these days.
