News Michael Morales no longer undefeated. Fight record updated

Is the determination in MMA regarding exhibition/professional simply whether the participant has received financial compensation for the fight?
I was pretty sure one of the reasons TUF fights are treated as exhibitions is that results of official professional bouts have to be reported to the athletic commission right away whereas the results of exhibitions can be kept secret until the reality show airs.

I don't know how it works in Ecuador though.

They are exhibition fights from a reality show... but we ( Tapology ) don't consider them to be , like TUF... even though no other site is changing his official record...

Sounds like some bush league stuff to me.

Yes, if I recall correctly they made the second season of TUF actual pro fights for exactly the reasons stated here and felt the fights should count. Turned out that was a terrible idea because no one accounted for the fact that the show was taped months before it was aired but the results of pro fights are reported to athletic commissions pretty much immediately so all the fights and fight winners were out there for people to find before the show even aired lol

This winds me up a bit, why did he think that wouldn't come out at some point - I'd feel like a fraud walking around claiming to be unbeaten if I knew I wasn't. And that goes for TUF, too - if I'd lost a fight on TUF I wouldn't be calling myself undefeated.
The loss isn’t the only thing that needs to come out

I would be interested as to why that classes as a pro fight but fights on TUF don't (personally I'd also count fights on TUF).
Apparently TUF has some kind of exception in the US where those fights are ruled exhibitions, since the results aren’t published live. As far as I know Tapology doesn’t treat other reality-show fights as exhibitions though.

Looks like they already changed their mind anyway lol, Morales’ original record got restored following the online backlash:

Greg (Tap owner) said that since it happened in 2017, back when they would've accepted calling the fight an exhibition, retroactively counting it as a pro fight wouldn't be the fair thing to do, but that if a similar show were to occur in current day then it would count in the fighter's pro record.

As far as TUF goes it really just boils down to a technicality to avoid having fights spoiled. Calling them exhibitions was the only way they could go about not having to report the results as soon as they happened. Not that it stops UFC from counting the fights themselves lol.

That's 1 more loss than we have, current record of 0-0 .. never ever been defeated in the octagon. They'll never beat me thats for sure.
