Losing to Gamrot, Gregor Gillespie, and Beneil Dariush by split decision means he is washed?

CDF didn't look great against Gillespie but he more than held his own against Gamrot until that somewhat flukey injury occurred. Many people thought the tides were turning in the Gamrot fight just before the rib injury occurred.

its not who he lost, rather HOW he is lost that is indicative of him being washed.
in his last fight (against gamrot), he looked sooo slow, a shell of his former self.
he also hasn't fought in over 16 months and has only gotten older. so the inactivity definitely won't help either.

CDF at his best really showed how elite he was against Pettis with his striking, cardio and bjj both in their primes I'd pick CDF but at 38 and after being inactive for 2 years I just feel like his plodding style is going to come back where he doesn't have the feet to track MJ.
Without mentioning the imploding skills MJ has I feel like his footwork and hands should be enough to keep CDF out of rhythm and out of the fight.

I favor CDF, but he doesnt tap MJ early I could see MJ coming on strong the last half & winning a decision. Maybe even get a tko. His conditioning the last 2 fights was very impressive.

Any idea who could headline this card? 6 weeks out at this point. Some ideas I came up with:

He put on a banger against Justin, then moved down, whooped Elkins for a round until he got subbed. Then beat two decent guys. Was easily beating Emmet until the last minute. Lost to Ray who isn't bad. Lost to Thiago who is great. Got outworked by Guida.

Then he beats Patrick, barely lost to Mullarky, and then beats Diakese.

His cardio seems fine and he doesn't seem uninterested at all. He's just shown that he's an easy win for really good sub guys.

He's doing well for a 36 year old in the smaller weights.

Agreed. I could honestly see this going either way, but I would argue that recent momentum actually favors Michael while Carlos has been steadily dropping off. Sure, maybe it's just that his attributes and skill set have petered off to the point where he can't compete against the elite anymore, but for all we know the Brazilian could be steadily regressing before our eyes whereas Johnson seems to be experiencing a bit of a resurgence in regards to confidence and taking his training seriously. Like you said, a lot of the dudes he lost to were generally pretty credible and/or he was often having a lot of success against them before falling behind/getting finished.

Skill set for skill set, both guys are fairly dangerous boxers at their best with pretty fast hands. Johnson definitely hits harder on a shot-for-shot basis, though. CDF would be live to submit Johnson if it goes to the mat, but he doesn't initiate grappling as often as guys like Dariush or Oliveira plus Michael's takedown defense when he's fresh really isn't that bad. Both guys have been known to have trouble managing their gas tank.

I might actually take Johnson to win this one, especially if he's a substantial underdog. He's looked surprisingly solid lately whereas I legitimately don't know where Carlos is at in regards to his career. If it was just a competitive loss to Dariush, that would be one thing. But him missing weight big-time against Gregor, followed by the weird injury against Gamrot where he was doing pretty good until he wasn't... I dunno. It's sufficient weirdness to keep me wary.

Yeah, it's more than likely Diego Ferreira who's 38 years old, on a 3 fight skid and has been out for 2 years...is probably wayyyy out of his prime, but so is Johnson.

MJ gets a bad rap when he really doesn't deserve it. His biggest issue is that everyone mainly remembers how he just suddenly lost fights that he was easily winning. Thiago, Elkins and Emmet all spring to mind.
