Michael B. Jordan is set to play as Hercules in Disney's live action Hercules

brother you are the one who said white

I said Greek people didn't consider anyone north of them to be part of civilization. That is everyone, not just Northern Euros.

Why are you trying to flip this on to me? You clearly stated "modern" terminology so we are using the modern meaning of white. It's like you forgot how this discussion even began.

You are trying to claim Ancient Greece as part of this umbrella it isn't lol. You wanted to use Indo-language which spans 50% of the globe and consists of a lot of people that are not considered "white". You then use the DNA markers that also consists of a lot of people that are not considered "white". How many more parameters do you want to set before you find what you want?
Excuse me, I wasn't the one that started with white. That was you. The reason I responded to you was because of this quote "How can white people claim Ancient Greece?"... That's how the discussion began.

Greeks share that pheynotypical trait, along with genetics, religion, language, weaponry, etc... so it's silly to separate them from other Europeans. Oh, and they live in Europe.

Nobody is "claiming" them however, just pointing out that they should be portrayed as they are, which is with a light complexion, not a sub Saharan African one.

Yeah, that isn’t really important though. You need to ask yourself “Why is this the one immutable detail in this story? Why is that so much more important than something like, say, the dialogue not being exactly as close as it can be to the original telling?”

It's good you mention what is important, because that is important to the discussion.

We have evolved to recognise different skin colour or sex and consider it relevant, whereas we haven't evolved to consider the use of a different word to be as meaningful.

Because people can say all sorts of shit, but different coloured people turning up usually meant death or opportunity. It was more important so it's more relevant to our genetics now.

Actual Greek person checking in.

Don't give a fuck. This is a Disney movie so at the end of the day it can be as stupid as it wants to be.

Lol @ making Hercules black though. As if people want that when they are in the mood for ancient Greek lore.

This lack of rabid defence for your culture on such an important issue is exactly why Britain can't trust you with the Elgin Marbles.

Greek gods were genderfluid too. Yes @ssBaldy and @CantCucktheTuck your straight, right wing, alpha male greek gods of masculinity were everything you hate about modern young people.

Zeus regularly TRANSITIONED himself into a woman to have sex with both women and men, and yes Zeus also got pregnant TWICE while in his male body.

Read it again, @Fox by the Sea while you laugh how the 'left' thinks that men can get pregnant, Zeus got pregnant gave birth twice.

Come on, make fun of how I don't know history when you didn't know this shit. Don't get all shy now.
I know that, but what you are missing is Zeus was a god and not a man. He didn't have to dilate a festering wound to "transition".
Also "hermaphrodite" also comes from Greece, so I would not mind such a being in a movie about Greek myths.
And I would not mind if they made Hercules bisexual in a movie, because he was, as were many warriors in his time.
But he was not black. And there was not a significant amount of blacks in Greece.

The issue is that people like you don’t understand how to classify humans properly and keep using obsolete terminology that you don’t understand. The “Caucasian race” is obsolete now because we use dna and genetic markers to determine classifications. Greece is dominated by j1 which is closer to arabs than to anyone else in Europe. Most of you couldn’t even define what “white” is to begin with.

The Caucasian race was historically regarded as a biological taxon which, depending on which of the historical race classifications was being used, usually included ancient and modern populations from all or parts of Europe, Western Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa
No, I don't think YOU understand.

When Greek people (myself included) fill out government documents, we check the "white" box and no one suspects a thing.

Lol at giving me a stern talking to about genetics and race when my argument is as simple as "open your fucking eyes"

This is the silliest shit to get upset over

Go touch grass

You're right, it does however seem reasonable to think that the casting is silly, or not and to discuss that with people.
We would be having a similar discussion if they remade Boyz in the Hood and had Brad Pitt playing Doughboy....Its just comical.

Isn’t he supposed to play Superman as well? Personally, I like Jordan as an actor, but I hate race swaps for the sake of race swaps in movies. There are so many examples of black actors playing roles meant for another race just to add color to a movie or be edgy. Aside from the horrendous black face actors early last century, you will never see the reverse again.

Just a few off the top of my head-Jordan being the next Superman, abra stone from doctor sleep was a blonde girl changed to black, mordo from dr strange was white-yet everyone kept focusing on a white woman, tilda swinton playing the ancient one(a old Asian man)

The same way Sylvester Stallone can play a heavyweight boxer at maybe 5'9" and under 170. Angles, roids and suspension of disbelief.

Fancasting is usually terrible because the focus on pure looks, which tend to be far from the top of list when you're considering leading actors who can carry a franchise or movie.

- Sly is awesome. Michael B is a douche. Cant they cast Bobby Lashely on the role?
And Rocky wasnt a big heavy-weight. Kevin Sorbo Hercules actually mocked the fact that he wasn't muscular.

I'm Korean-American - I think the race swap is stupid as hell and everyone is tired of it. We need a trans Hercules though.

- Would be funny if Disney did describe Hercules as pansexual and MIchael B wasn't alware of that!

The 50 Daughters of King Thespius, are actually played by men. The battle against the Nemean lion is actually a furry sex scene.

common sense? in this economy?

So here comes the goalpost shifting. First you say "A black greek rofl' and then when presented with a black greek you then pivot to, 'well there weren't that many of them'

At first I thought you were just a moron (and you still very well might be), but you're dishonestly arguing in bad faith, which is worse.
Oh you thought my laughing implied none at all. Next time Ill explain it in detail so you don’t post nine times in ignorance.

Memnon is not "A black Greek" he's "The King of Aethiopia"... he's Ehtiopian.

Feel free to post some studies that show significant Sub-Saharan African populations in Ancient Greece...
