I said that to say that Ancient Greeks had nothing in common with other white people. They viewed everyone north of them as barbarians. The people in the north had no culture until it was stolen from the Romans. You're fighting for something that has no relation to you. Hercules is a mythological character who was the son of Zeus. There was a lot of fuckery in Greek mythology.

The Rock’s whole career has been race swapped movies. He started out with Scorpion King, Gridiron Gang, Pain and gain, Baywatch and Walking Tall. I am pretty sure Black Adam isn’t black either.

Now Disney just needs to make him gay and all the boxes will be checked. Makes sense though as everything that studio touches, they ruin. People won’t see it because of the black washing, regardless if MBJ is a good actor and it will be another financial bomb.

That aside, The Rock 2014 only grossed 74million in the US and Canada. I don’t think this property has low interest after millions of remakes.

To be fair The Rock can match mediterranean colors (specially back to an era when people passed much more time under the sun, pics below it's literally my summer tan lol) and efforts were made with make up to give him a bit more greek look

It was'nt THAT terrible casting, they invested hard on DJ physical ability to cover the role and even if in some shots he looked indeed bit misplaced ethnic pick overall he nailed it

I'm a firm believer that stories about the gods are stories of real people of a previous age. I'm pretty sure you'd find Hercules was a real person if you were able to look back in time.

Personally I feel it's pretty ridiculous to choose a black actor for the role, in the same way that a midget or a woman would be weird choices.

I'm not sure what the benefit is for choosing visibly inappropriate actors for roles. Maybe advertising?
