Hello guys. I've been doing some research regarding the advantages of re-usable Mexican gauze (elastic bandage) compared to a normal Mexican handwrap and I can't find that much.

Obviously the normal Mexican handwraps are more durable and economical, but what else?

I did try comparing the two and these are my observations. If I'm missing something please do share your thoughts.

• Mexican Gauze (elastic bandage)

Pros:
- Molds to the hand better
- Lighter
- Very breathable
- Reusable (compared to normal gauze)
- I love how this wraps my whole hand specially the palm area which doesn't bunch up too much.
- Elasticity is just perfect IMO

Cons:
- Not as durable as Mexican hand wraps or Cotton handwraps.
- Need to double up the wrap on the wrist to have better protection.
- Stay away from velcro and tape if you want to reuse.

• Mexican Handwrap

Pros:
- Very durable
- Comes in different colors and lengths
- The thickness of this material (compared to Mexican gauze) is better when wrapping the wrist.

Cons:
- Too thick on the palm area. It feels like I'm holding an inch pipe when I'm gripping the grip bar of the glove. (compared to the mexican gauze)
- Not as breathable as Mexican gauze

IMO I like Mexican gauze for my whole hand except the wrist. Mexican handwraps gives better wrist protection but bunch up too much on the hand area.

The reason I'm doing this comparison and asking for your inputs also is because Mexican gauze (elastic bandage) hardly comes by in my country, And I was thinking of shipping some in to sell. A friend of mine brought in some Japanese gauze but were too expensive, but sold okay. He didn't re stocked though, maybe because he was having a hard time shipping them or what not.

I'll throw in a couple of photos for comparison

Would the Cleto Reyes High Compression wraps count as Mexican gauze?

I've only used Mexican style hand wraps and the Cleto Reyes high compression wraps, but they are definitely different beasts. I may buy some gauze to see what it's like.

Maybe you could use the wraps for the wrist and the gauze for the rest of the hand. Hybrid system. You've probably thought of that before. Would it work?

*I've never tried gauze, mexican wraps have worked well enough for me

It ended up too long. unless there is a 100" Mexican style wrap then it might work. I just wanted to see if there are people who swear by Mexican gauze.

You just gave me a great idea! I'll cut one of my MX style handwraps!

The Mexican Gauze picture looks almost exactly like Reyes High Compression wraps and not much at all like Le Roy gauze, which is very popular among Mexican boxers. Le Roy makes a wrap too, it's very long, thin, and soft - but not very elastic.

Any thoughts on the Reyes high compression? Thanks, and sorry to TS for the tangent.

They're like hyper elastic mexican wraps, without much length (mine are like 120"). On one hand you've gotta be extra careful about not wrapping too tight and cutting off circulation, more so than a mexican wrap. On the other hand, it's so elastic that it doesn't provide as much stability for the wrist as a mexican wrap. If it's compression you want (more than wrist support) these are the ones to go with.

Perfect answer, thank you very much, brother!

Thanks for this!
