Even in caveman days, women would go to various males to gather more resources. This is one of the things that has happen with the breakdown of the family. Women are looking for an alpha more than a husband, but they will look to other men for additional resources also. That is primitive nature.
Where are you getting the 40% from?
I forget the study, it used DNA evidence, probably mitochondrial and showed our ancestors contained twice as many women as men.
