It started as a ninja choke and then the roll to north/south switched up the hand configuration so it seems to have become an Ezekiel from north/south

I don't believe it was an Ezekiel as it wasn't Merab lacing his arm through (I very well could be wrong), but the initial camera angle really makes it look like one, it's what I was yelling while it was live "FUCKING EZEKIEL HELL YEA!".
Tapology and Sherdog are calling it a north south, though there may be a specific name for the variation everyone outside of a specific grappling nerd is aware of.

All his fights have been pretty entertaining for a while tbh

Not the entire fight, but his own body language and crazy antics that are entirely Merab make the result memorable lol

There’s lots of guys I find boring but Merab, despite all his decisions is not one of them. The pace he pushes is incredible and it’s always awesome to see him break guys in there with his limitless cardio.

Last night he didn’t need it though and gave us a cool finish. I was surprised he was able to hold the choke and keep it locked in when Sean rolled. I thought that roll may have saved him until the camera caught that it was still in and then he tapped. Call it what you want but to me, it was a north south and a cool one.

Well this was much better than the first fight even before the submission. Merab took alot more chances just headhunting Sean.

Here's what makes it a north/south Ezekiel - the non-choke arm crosses from one side of the back of the neck to the other, with its hand on the choke arm. The choke arm comes across as a blade to complete the choke

It looks a bit different from standard Ezekiels because it's from north/south, and the fact that the non-choke arm goes so deep and reaches the bicep rather than the forearm like in a standard Ezekiel

North/south choke has a major difference it doesn't have a blade pressing into the neck, it's bicep pushing on one side and body pushing on the other

You can certainly make the argument that he's even more effective at drowning his opponents than Khabib.

He could have improved, and that still could have happened to him.

He cant win by grappling, cos he did defend well, for a time, but the relentlessness eventually overwhelmed him.

I think he probably trained as hard as he could, but if he lets Merab dictate the fight, he will get swallowed up.

Better to go out on your shield and come forward. He let Merab bully him too much. Throw some flying knees breh. He just dont got the style or the mentality you need. Merab looked at him like Sean was his dinner.

Merab gave it a bit more gas in this one, going full power most of the time. Especially in third, when he lifted Sean was amazing. What a machine, I thought this time he will be little bit tired, after such high pace. But no, he was breathing normally after the finish .
