I don't have a dog in this race, but I see these ones and can't help but notice people taking the date listed as the date when the bad thing happens, when in this context it's a point of no return.

Someone smarter than me might be able to explain it better, but it's like a a mechanic saying doing 20,000 miles without an oil change can do major damage to an engine, but someone then calling bullshit because they've done 30,000 miles between services and their car hasn't blown up.

That article was published 30 years ago and the bad thing was supposed to happen 20 years ago. This isn't within 40 miles of a conversation about vehicle maintenance. Sounds like you do have a dog in this race and it isn't about facts.

I do care about facts and the fact is what you've written isn't what the article says.

I think in any sort of discourse, clear communication and understanding is a absolutely necessary, which isn't what happens with those sort of articles.

So this article wasn't written 30 years ago and the bad thing wasn't supposed to happen by 2000? Nvmd, you're one of those "we should have a conversation" type of retards. Fuck off.

In the fake news era, misunderstanding causes far too much division.

Yes that article was written in 1989. No, the text shown there does not say the bad thing was going to happen by the year 2000.

The text reads: "entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000."

You have read it as: "entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels by the year 2000 if the global warming trend is not reversed."

Those are two very different things.

In this context, I don't couldn't care less about the article being right or wrong, I care about people with poor reading comprehension not being able to properly understand information.

Did I miss something?

Yeah @VivaRevolution was what appeared to be in a drunken banter about that meme of yours that I re quoted. Something or other "socialism is great yada yada" Irish had it removed in less than 10 minutes but I still got my Freedom meme in.
