Von Braun was actually arrested in 1944 by the Gestapo and held for two weeks after a spy reported catching a private conversation of his amongst other engineers where he frankly expressed that his only interest rocketry and developing the V-2 was for the purposes of space travel, not weapons systems for the Reich.
This was considered to be potential treason, and Albert Speer (Minister of Armaments) had to personally intervene on behalf of Hitler's orders for his release and reinstatement of the program. Curiously, von Braun had rebuffed a personal offer from Heinrich Himmler to leave the Rocket Research Center and work more closely with Hans Kammler only weeks prior to his temporary arrest.
