That's a horrible perspective. He didn't lose to an opponent, he was simply unable to address his own hypocrisy. He didn't lose to an interviewer he owned himself.
And that perspective is exactly why it's a joke that he wrote about the topic of political polarization and the decline of discourse. The idea that he is trying to have honest conversations is branding - he's looking to dunk on people he disagrees with.
It's also hilarious that he behaved in the same way he criticizes the left (and that is how he became famous).
