You should definitely watch it. The 19th century is my favorite time period for movies to be set in and that is one of my favorite movies. It reminds me a lot of Dances With Wolves but set in Japan.

Edit: PS Ken Watanabe is beyond gangster in that movie. One of my top 5 or 6 movie characters ever.
