If true...

People are going to want to take issue with this, but I get what she's saying. I'm guessing philes' attraction to children is like homosexuals' attraction to the same sex: not something they chose, not something they'd necessarily keep if they had a choice, but real nonetheless. The difference, of course, is that one can legally be consented to and the other can't, but it's the same basic thing - a deviation from the norm that's baked into your brain chemistry.

But then you've got the obvious question of why you can cure philes with therapy and treatment but it's considered bigoted to suggest the same for any other atypical sexual orientation...

I wouldn't want it to have a sexual orientation attached to it. phile works fine to label it as a sickness/mental illness thing; less chance for it to become socially normalized that way. It's bad enough trans people are being accepted as anything other than mentally ill, that's doing enough damage.
