They've been creating a police state since 2001 but no one seems to care as long as it's "their side" doing it.

Hell probably even longer than that but 2001 is when I first started paying attention to politics and the patriot act and the NSA just shit all over everyone's 4th amendment rights.

There's this weird double edged problem that we have with this. The government should not be expanding in power, but how is the issue of millions of illegals going to be solved when state and local government officials and representatives are working against solving it with deportations and fraud investigations and convictions and the like?
If the states will actively work against enforcing the law, then the enforcement has to come from somewhere, but you don't want the central government to be given any more power because it can eventually come back against its' lawful citizens and the central government (heck government on most levels) never reels back its' powers after a job is done (income tax for example was meant to be temporary). Plus we all know government efficiency is an oxymoron so things will never get done that way.
I'm open to ideas on all fronts, like citizenship to a select number that become fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking), have no criminal record and keep a clean one for x amount of years (no felonies for sur,e and no x amount of misdemeanors; and you have to have provisions for states that have decriminalized certain actions like theft under $1,000 or whatnot), can pass the citizenship test, renounce dual citizenship, and have to spend x amount of years without government assistance.
