If tarriffs are so bad why do so many countries have tarriffs on US goods? Why did America already have tarriffs on loads of countries before this year?

Or sorry, does this count as 'harassing you' lmao

That's a GREAT question.

Tariffs are used like a scalpel to focus on certain specific industries and products of another country. Let's take electric cars.

Right now, BYD (China) are making cars that make Teslas look like Fred Flintstone's ride. Those cars are years ahead of what the U.S. manufactures. The tariffs on those make it cost prohibitive for an American to import, even though they're easily affordable without them.

You put tariffs on that specific industry to keep a level playing field and so that China won't just dominate the U.S. EV market.

Just slapping tariffs on anything and everything, including islands whose only inhabitants are penguins is just plain crazy.

Those penguins had $1.4 million in machinery/electrical exports (just to the USA) in 2022, so something must be going on over there. That or Australia is mislabeling the origin of shipments to avoid tariffs...

Doesn't make a difference since it's not an independent country and is part of Australia and would face the exact same sanctions Australia did.

This is pure ChatGPT, dude.

Making a distinction that doesn't exist.

It's not like a Singapore or a Monaco.

Thats a nice way of saying tariffs are used to make that countries goods less viable to the people of the country importing them. Every country does it to us.

So..... why is every other nation having tariffs on US exports good but US having tarrifs on imports is... worse than Hitler?
