With shit like that going on, the only reason the US isn't quasi-authoritative like Canada and the UK is because a large portion of our country is defiant because of the two most important amendments (1st and 2nd).

If we didn't have those amendments, the half of the US that wants to go "Yes, govern harder, daddy" would eventually turn us into a Canada/UK clone.
