As corrupt as it can be, capitalism is still the best method to feed the most people outside tiny self sustained settlements. However, it drives me mad how much food is wasted, especially by lazy restaurant owners. I have a buddy who owns two places. He has a great system with the local food bank and a homeless shelter. They even come and pick it up. There are procedures/guidelines, but they are small. It's such great promo material for him too, prob the biggest reason he does it, but hey, win win lol

Your friend is doing the right thing. I agree totally about food waste. I worked at a place that was a “political institution” (can’t be more specific). They had a ton of big meetings and various delegates visiting for talks. The tax payer would obviously pick up the bill for the food and drink (only the best!) it was a sin the amount of good food left all the time. To put the waste into perspective many times two America sized fridges () would be full and it would take me and a girl who worked at reception 6 or 7 trips to drop the rest at the local homeless shelter. If we didn’t make the effort it would have just been thrown away.

Their recent albums ain’t great but I’ve been seeing them live for nearly 25 years and still have a great time. It’s one of those gigs that brings out old friends who rarely go to gigs these days. The new album is out Friday and is all unrecorded woody guthrie so should have a good few songs for the working man!
