Yeah, thought it would give you great pleasure to know that socialists literally seized legislative control of one of the most right-wing states in America and then enacted many of the greatest policies in its history, several of which are still intact an entire century later despite decades of modern GOP state rule (which is an absolute slimeball party in its own right, to be clear). This meme was only somewhat sarcastic, dad never said "communists aren't people" but there certainly wasn't anything left-wing about him. At All.

Yet he got sort of red-faced when I started coming of age and questioned how he felt about the NPL's policy platform: "Well, that's different! " before explaining that (in his opinion) the biggest problem with socialism isn't necessarily the ideas but the scale of implementation. He thought it required not so much a small homogeneous population but at minimum a high level of community trust with genuinely shared interests and values.

America on the whole most definitely does not possess that, not today nor ever really but it is ironically the contemporary "socialists" who carry a lot of responsibility for driving the wedge(s) that rejected class consciousness in favor of group identity grievances. How much influence Porky has wielded on that aggressive switch is debatable and something we regularly meme-talk about, but it's certainly not insignificant.
