P.S. Not to mention I'd love to hang out w @Deorum in South Dakota talking about nordic stuff and everything else ;) never leave us hanging dawg!

Oh, yeah. It ain't nothing dramatic, I just want to GTFO the interwebs for a while, reconnect with nature and sharpen up on my survival skills. I'm leaving for the Daks already again this week, you're welcome any time. Almost all of the fun is either outdoors or physically active in some way but the winters are shit so usually just hanging out in the garage working on the race cars or down in the basement bar playing pool. You can watch your soccer matches there too, lol.

AK magazine boobytrap

It's designed to look like a random mag which was left behind after a hasty retreat. If your Army uses Kalashnikovs, you might put it in your own weapon. If your Army doesn't, you might strip the cartridges out to empty it for disposal. In either case, you took the bait!

This particular magazine was discovered by British troops in Operation Joint Endeavour, 1995-96, sitting on a trench mound. The grenade-type pin was still inserted which alarmed the Soldier who found it. Here's how it works:

Once the pin is pulled, a detent switches from safe to armed. It cannot be switched back to safe at this point. There is a dummy cartridge at the bottom of the mag, so that if you look at the peep-hole indicator you will think the magazine is fully loaded. Also, the booby-trap weighs the same as a loaded magazine. The 5 rounds at the top are actually live, so you could fire or inspect those thinking nothing is abnormal... Until it's too late.

As each live round is removed from the magazine the explosive sequence progresses. A spring-loaded striker is released upon the last round leaving the magazine. It strikes a detonator and unleashes the main charge of 35 grams TNT. For reference, that is ~62% of a WWII hand grenade (US Mk.II has 52 gram TNT / Russian F1 grenade 60g). In other words, 62% of a hand grenade explodes in your hands.

The magazine is a Russian AKM mag, however it says "Yugo" because Yugoslavia or Serbia created the booby trap. It has qualities of factory construction, rather than a one-off from an enterprising individual soldier.

100. But that grotesque cretin, thankfully is not. He's someone that would be known only to people familiar with local NoDak media and politics. The dude ate ALL of the soybeans and comes with the biggest shit takes imaginable. My principal problem with him is his loud advocacy to do away with the anti-corporate farming law, his ostensibly pro-China stances and defense of Bill Gates. He's also got all kinds of stupid ideas about the state's sovereign wealth fund tied to oil and gas extraction.

North Dakota has a very distinctive cultural heritage deeply tied to agriculture and a political history unlike virtually any other state, the legacy of which is still reverberates into present day. For as deeply red and socially conservative as it is, it once had a genuine third party that @ICHEERTHEBULL would be proud of which took control of the state legislature with massive populist-backed support in the 1920s/'30s. The publicly-owned Bank of North Dakota as well as the ND Mill and Elevator are still in operation to this day. In fact, it is the largest flour mill in the United States.

The Non-Partisan League (NPL) was a left-wing political party founded in 1915 in North Dakota by Arthur C. Townley, a flax farmer and former organizer for the Socialist Party of America prior to being expelled for his method of rogue operating. On behalf of small farmers and merchants, the NPL advocated public control of banks, grain elevators, mills and other farm-related industries in order to reduce the disporportionate power of corporate and political interests from Minneapolis and Chicago.

After the 1918 elections, in which the NPL won full control of both houses of the state legislature, the League enacted a significant portion of its platform. It established state-run agricultural enterprises such as the Bank of North Dakota, the North Dakota Mill and Elevator, and a state-owned railroad. The legislature also prohibited corporate farming and corporate ownership of farmland, passed a statewide graduated income tax to distinguish between earned and unearned income, authorized a hail insurance fund, and established a workmen's compensation fund that assessed employers.

NPL Policy.

I love the civic pride you have for your area. It’s actually on my list of places to visit in the states now.

It actually gets even more specific down to an Ag district and county level but that would be almost nonsensical to discuss or talk about and with very few larger Suredog political tie-ins (as if fucking North Dakota itself isn't already arcane enough). My area isn't the cowboi and wrangler shit type rural, it's farmers working lush soil and aesthetic crop fields. I have a lot of respect for ranchers but dealing with and caring for living animals seems like a fucking nightmare.
