I can't stress enough how accurate this meme is.

Trans advocates say that some trans individuals have significant mental distress, that this distress can be treated with medication, and that withholding the medication increases distress. How is that any different from any other treatable mental illness like depression or anxiety?

But that's the irony. It's conservatives who are skeptical of trans claims, and suggest people with dysphoria be given no treatment. Meanwhile trans advocates are demanding access to medication and surgery, while simultaneously denying that it's a mental illness. You can't have it both ways. If it is something that needs to be treated with medication and surgery to resolve, it is definitionally a mental illness -- especially if the proposed treatment apparently cures the distress!

And the mental illness is thinking you're something you're not (another gender) so wouldn't giving them hormone injections/blockers and body mutilation as a treatment send the message of "yes, you are indeed supposed to be this other gender".
