It was totally Custer and I loved the wild life loop. Went around it every day we were there and one last go before leaving leaving. One of them burrows or donkeys or whatever damn near busted the mirrior off and kicked the shit of the door. Id never seen a herd of bison before and theres almost always some animal i want to see when i go somewhere not here. Found the little Prarie dog guys to be amusing and realized if a golden eagle Flys over it's a pterodactyl .but he might have been Wyoming the details are thinning with the passage of time a little and I hate that and wish I could preserve every memory from this time forever.. Saw the Badlands and crazy horse and Rushmore. Cannot remember the names of places but me and my moms explored and adventured all over that area and was my fave part of our western trip by a lot. Can never remember the name of the corn palace town we got stranded in when the car got hit by lightning. Loved that the dudes from the dealership sent me my white light white heat white trash cd with like weird purple markings from the lightning and hate that I lost it in the fire. I very much want to go out there with my wife and son when he's big enough to remember. I really did like south Dakota. One of 2 other states besides Michigan I enjoyed visiting. Seeing signs in that tiny town then walking home gave me a horrible case of the heebie jeebies South Dakota in the summer sunshine was amazing. Wish we would have spent more time there. Was so happy to see my wife when I got home after being gone all summer too. Came back with a full beard that I've had ever since and shocked her. Left town looking like a punk kid and came home looking like a grizzled redneck.

I could not have had a better last adventure with my mom if I had 100 years to plan it. Just didn't know it would be the last one in the moment. I think about these memories a lot and am sure I've spoken on this before but ya know . Comes back in a flood when triggered.

Oh I forgot. Watching my mom singing along to social distortion and bad religion and mustard plug and trying not to get caught makes my heart grow like the grinch when I think about it too.

And getting into an arguement at whal drug when taking the cowboy photo about why the fuck would I have this shotgun broke open on my shoulder and totally having autism about how you'd carry a double barrel.

Oh man they just flooding in now.

I had a feeling it would draw some of that out, but this went way beyond expectations and I fucking love it. People will get pissy if I give it the full reply it deserves (so maybe elsewhere), but special places do much to create all-time memories with special people. Western SoDak and the Black Hills are special. Just imagine the adventures to come in the near future with your son; is there anything on this earthly life that is more worth looking forward to? I think not.

My road trip out there was one of my favorite.

It's a slice of Quintessential Americana. The combination of natural features and scenery, Native American and Wild West history, regional culture and kitsch is rare and unique.
