COVID-19 is a novel virus that's way more contiguous. Even with a death rate of 1% if it infects the same number of people as the swine flu, estimated at 60 million. It will kill 600,000 people. Also it has higher rate of people needing hospitalization. We don't know the long term consequences of it on people. I think people who want the economy to open don't understand the consequences or ignore on what that might do to the economy. The United States has a economy heavly leverage on debt.

The crazy thing, Americans where probably in better financial standing during the Spanish flu. The American family weren't not indebted like they are today. That includes corporations. You can tell this by the feds buying Junk Bonds during this crisis. A single medical crisis will bankrupt the average American family. Anything as half as bad as the Spanish flu will cause a depression today.

As a right winger and a Marine Vet I'm disheartened by people on the right willing to sacrifice for what's best for the nation and it's people. They called themselves "patriots". But patriots during WWII went without luxuries and even ration food for the war effort. Our youth was sent overseas to die by the hundreds of thousands. Yet today's "patriots" cry because they can't go to their local restaurant. They promote junk science to validate their feelings. What would they say if they were issued rations book like in the 40's?
