I like to try and work with people rather than hand out infractions, regardless of political stance. I enjoy these threads greatly, which is why I moderate them. I personally know a guy who was picked up by the Rand Corporation right out of college and I have a family member high up in a different think tank. You don't have to be particularly clever or savvy or even super high IQ. You have to have an idea and/or be able to work the hell out of that idea until it's workable to those valuing it. The idea that someone smart who read about memetics and figured out a method of using it to weaponize "hearts and minds" isn't all that far-fetched. Hell, wish I had thought of it. The story is likely complete fiction but, if I was asked to reverse engineer how the current climate started... I'd come up with a story similar to this.

It would have required five people knowing what memetic are immediately after admitting they've never read Dawkins. The dialog is by far the weakest link in that post.

"Steve" explains it to them... but he also refers to a Hawaiian getaway as "holiday" and not "vacation." Plenty if Brits and Aussies at American universities but that was a red flag for me.
