Happy Birthday Melvin!

Melvin's last MMA win was against Gesias Cavalcante in WSOF, back in 2014.
Although he last fought in MMA in 2019.

His last UFC win was a k.o of Mac Danzig back in 2013. He parted ways with the UFC after a decision loss against Michael Johnson.

His FIRST UFC win was against Marcus Davis, via TKO in T.U.F finale in Nov 2005.
49 year old Marcus Davis incidentally, won his last bout in November 2021. Which means he has a more recent win than Melvin...

Of Melvin's 16 final MMA fights over a 7 year period, he missed weight 8 times. This effectively meant his opponents had a 50/50 chance of a disadvantage.
That said, the first time he missed weight was against Cerrone in 2012, where he lost by KO.
The only win when missing weight was also his most recent win listed earlier.
A 1 in 7 win rate when eating too many doughnuts.

As far as I know, he only won 2 times in his 7 bare knuckle bouts in two different promotions.

All in all, a bit of a long slide downwards for Melvin.

All that listed, he was still exciting and I loved watching him win fights. I hope his health is good. Quite sad seeing such massive runs of losses. Just like Bigfoot.

The new nickname is "The 40 year old assassin"

Melvin Guillard had all the potential and had flashes of success even in fights he lost (ie against Cerrone and Nathan Diaz). Ultimately, I feel his discipline is what cost him -- I never met him, but I know he bounced around from camp to camp as I don't believe he really gelled well with any of them. I have and always will support him though -- seemed like a likeable dude with perhaps some demons holding him back. I hope he does well for himself outside of the cage -- I reckon he could probably do okay with skills seminars and maybe coaching.

I watched him fight in local promo's here in ATL back in the day. He was super explosive, but very raw in the technique dept.

Fun story... Back then they didn't let us tape up our hands. You had to just wear MMA gloves only. At one of the fights I saw him at I congratulated him after his fight. He was very nice and thanked me. Then he told me that he thought he had broke both hands in the fight!! I know, I know, I'm old...

Dude had all the tools. Lightning handspeed. Athleticism. Killer instinct. Damn he was fun to watch. Like others have said, he lacked discipline unfortunately. Who pops for cocaine ffs?
