To liberals, it doesn't matter what Trump's personal views on abortion are. In his time in office, he appointed judges that took abortion rights from the population, and if he gets in again, he'll further restrict rights. But the move signals to illiberals that he's an OK guy on the issue.

Not only is Trump obviously lying here as he'd work to restrict abortion in practice, so did his nominees for SCOTUS who were asked about Roe and said it was settled law. They don't care about lying if it gets them the position from which they can enact their agenda.
