The fight:

Takedown for Brock inside of 8 seconds was crazy!

Genuinely thought Brock had him when he was circling around him, landing those hammers.

Amazing work from Mir to threaten with armbars, and force Brock to back away. The kneebar was also beautiful, although it mainly worked due to Lesnar's lack of experience.

The refereeing in my opinion ruined the fight - put an asterisk over the whole thing.

The refereeing:

Lesnar did land maybe 1 or 2 glancing, non-intentional blows to the back of Frank's head, but I think the pause in action with minimal warning was harsh, especially when he's close to finishing the fight.

The fact he took a point, was just ridiculous! Not even a genuine warning.

He literally looked like the referees in UFC video games, who wave off a fight from half-way across the Octagon. How about you grab the damn hold and make sure it's over, instead of waving in the air and ignoring the first 2 sequences of profuse tapping from Lesnar, idiot!

That mustache as well, fucking hell.

Opinions?:

What were your reactions to the takedown, close finish, stand-up from the ref and the submission?

You're almost like a decade late there buddy...
I know matey lol.

I started at UFC 70 randomly, and I'm working my way through all of the main events and co-main events of the cards.

I've seen 99% of them already, but I'm in a groove now so I keep posting up stuff to see what you guys think.

I wasn't on Sherdog back then ;)

I am a longtime Mir fan and I was excited about the fight but also nervous as Brock seemed like a bit of a monster.

When Mir went down and Brock started Donkey Konging him I thought that might be it. Then once they got restarted I thought Mir can start again and get his Jiu Jitsu going now the fight starts for real. When Mir locked up the kneebar I knew immediately he had it and I was excited! But also impressed with Brock notwithstanding.

There is always a punchers chance that Brock would have gotten the W, but Mir showed that Brock had little to no submission defense by subbing him.

Their rematch at UFC 100 showed that Brock had clearly improved.

Also, from what I remember in their first match Brock was hitting Mir in the back of the head and got a warning, shortly after Mir caught him. I don't think it was Maz's idiocy.

Admittedly, I have not watched that match in quite some time.

Nope.

Lesnar was green as hell when he fought Mir the first time and wasn't quite ready for that caliber at that time. I love how there are still people out there thinking it's trendy to hate on Mazzagatti for doing his job. Ironically Mazagatti always got flamed for everything regardless of what he actually does.

He hit Mir on the back of the head, period. If he had some fight IQ at that point like the level of calmness and dominance he showed later in the refight with Mir by picking his shots instead of rabid punching Frank wildly like a schoolgirl he could have finished him early into the fight. The only "idiocy" to blame for that loss is Brock's but i still would prefer to call it inexperience instead of idiocy.
