Medium heat take of the day: Nunes doesn't deserve a rematch

Maybe you're one of those people who thinks a record is the only thing that decides a rematch, but I'm not.

Nunes was walked down and pummeled. Pushed and broken. So destroyed mentally and physically that she tapped with little resistance.

She was made to look like an amateur who didn't belong in there with a grizzled vet.

That is not a close loss that merits a rematch. It's not like Anderson Silva clowning around against Weidman the first time and getting caught. She was beaten down face to face and had nothing for her opponent.

And the look on her face while getting a whooping was a mixture of exhaustion, fear, and confusion. Her hair was all tussled up. She looked like some kind of cartoon character getting the smackdown and having the little birdies fly around her head. How embarrassing.

Bottom line, someone who took that level of punishment in such a one-sided and embarrassing way does not deserve a rematch. This is like Woodley vs. Usman levels of domination.

She needs to fight another contender and prove she isn't washed up, she doesn't deserve a SNIFF at the title before that happens.

Casual
Troll
Wasteland

She deserves it but it would be better if she doesn't get it right away.
Nunes will get that rematch though and will win decisively, which will cause more inactivity in bw division again as she defends her fw belt.
WHY does she deserve it after getting beaten so badly?

She deserves it a lot more than any rematch Conor ever got.
Neither of Conor's instant rematches was following a title fight loss. Nothing wrong with the Diaz rematch, and nothing wrong with the Poirier instant rematch that wasn't wrong with Poirier-McGregor II - Conor didn't deserve either fight, and making a hash of the lightweight title situation wasn't fair to anyone.

That said, of course Nunes should get the rematch, and the UFC should fold the women's 145 lb "division." Nunes is still the clear number one contender at BW and should be training for BW without worrying about the need to defend a meaningless women's FW belt. Additionally, anyone else who beat Peña would be considered a paper champion until beating Nunes; better to get that dealt with upfront.

And i thought the official judges were bad. Lets hope to god, they never let Sherdog employees be official judges.

TS doesn't think Nunes deserves a rematch but probably prays Conor gets a rematch every time he gets starched.

Defend against whom? That’s the reason she didn’t fight at BW for 2 years. There literally was nobody she didn’t already beat. And even GDR has been removed from the BW rankings.

There is nobody, or she’s already beaten everybody. Spencer is retired. Anderson got kicked to the curb. I guess there is Norma DuMont. But then who does Pena fight at BW? Does Holly get yet another TS?

Please tell me you’re not one of those Shevchenko huggers that think it would be badass for her to move up now that the woman that beat her twice is out of the picture?

No surely you can’t be, because that would be hypocritical in regards to the holding up the two divisions stance you’ve taken. Unless Shevchenko vacated the 125 belt.

These 3 divisions are incredibly shallow. A rematch makes sense. If Pena wins, then that puts and end to it. Nunes probably retires, and FW gets shut down. That might actually be the best solution.

Pretty much has to be Dumont. She's on a 3 fight streak, 2 at FW, and is the #1 ranked contender with wins over the next 2 in the rankings. Absolutely - 100% - should be Nunes vs Dumont for the WFW title next. The division is extremely shallow, there's no denying that, but when a simultaneous 2-dvision champ loses a belt, they should probably defend the other. She defended it twice in a row before losing the BW strap, and she lost pretty convincingly. Had it been a closely contested or split decision, an immediate rematch would be warranted based on her prior domination in both divisions, but this is not the case.

Is she holding up FW or is she literally Holding Up FW.

Yes

Yes
I can see the argument for DuMont at 145. I actually brought her name up. But you ignored the part of my post that asks what do you do at 135? Holly?

You need to answer that question for the debate to continue.

Yeah, it's kinda fucky at 135, but that's fine. I would honestly say Pennington. She has 3 wins since losing to Holly, doesn't she? It'll work itself out. Either way, there's no need for Amanda to hold up 2 divisions, as I said, and she has a new challenger to defend against. She lost convincingly and has obligations in another division.

That’s a fair answer.

But think about what you’re actually saying. Rocky is number 7 right now. I’ve always advocated for the next person in line. You can’t just skip over 6 other fighters with a brand new champion. That’s just not fair or cool. And that list doesn’t even include GDR.

Fair play for answering my question. But that answer is rubbish from a sporting pov. You must know that.

I normally don't support immediate rematches...but one case where it is deserved is when a dominant champion loses.

Now while I believe Nunes deserves an immediate rematch, whether it is a good idea for her to take it, or if it would be better to win a fight in between, is another matter...but that should be her choice to make, IMHO.

It's not a problem just because wmma is shallow, there's not anyone else that clearly deserves the shot.

But the smart thing for her to do would be fight someone else. These instant rematches where someone got beat down never go well for that person. The only one that I can think of that did was Conor Diaz, and he barely won the rematch. Lucky he did honestly.

Youd have to go all the way back to Shogun Machida to find an instant rematch where the result was different.. and they was a robbery not a clear win.

I'd like to see her get drubbed again tbh
