If McGregor wins, they can promote the last fight as a one time fluke and go on with the hype driving it towards new levels.

If he loses, then he already lost his mystique anyways so it doesn't really matter.

It was the best business move to make. They get nothing with Conor beating Frankie or Ado again. With a win, they get to resume this hype train.

They get nothing from him beating one of the best champions there was and from beating the guy everyone thinks gives Conor the most trouble at 145?!?? Think a second win over Aldo and/or Edgar well and truly stokes the hype train!!!

There would also be a lot more ammo for the verbal war now that Diaz will play up his win over him

Nope. He still lost to Nate, who has never been champion. It just makes McGregor and both Aldo look bad.

It's good for business and also bad for business.

The FW division gets held up again, one of the UFC toughest fighters is being screwed, and Nate could be building other hype for other cards like against Rda, Pettis, Alvarez or Khabib/Ferguson.

I really like the idea of RDA vs Alvarez if the Diaz/Conor rematch happens tho.

So he gains nothing by defending his belt? Wtf? You can't be serious if you truly believe getting his first title defense does nothing for him or the UFC. Frankie has long been talked as the worst possible match for Conor, if Conor can beat Frankie it does a ton for him and his legacy. They can absolutely hype him back up if he beats Frankie.

And we care about Dana's profits because???

Love Conor but I dont see how he wins this fight

Only if Dana is planning on running out to the cage to hit Nate in the back with a chair. Then Conor wins and CM punk comes out to announce that he is forming a new world order with Conor and anyone who is outside of the order will be destroyed.

Because if you kept headlining shows with Mighty Mouse and Frankie Edgar the UFC (and basically MMA) would shut down.
Maybe kids like you need trash talk to be interested, but yeah Mighty Mouse and Frankie Edgar are 2 of the very best martial artists in the sport. And you're naive if you think the sport would shut down.

Nope. Conor wants to stay at 170? Put him in against CM Punk----really how could this fight be a bad situation? Punk is in his late 30's how much could the UFC expect from him?

Nothing but GOOD from this fight in my opinion-----(even though I cant stand CM Punk)
The star power will sell this fight, If Conor wins then he will have a win at 170 and he puts the stamp on the ex-WWE guy. But if CM Punk did beat Conor the internet would explode. Punk would have won his UFC debut and he beat the Notorious Conor McGregor! Will it suck for Conor? Sure but he has no reason to be at 170 pounds anyway. It would be a big money maker for the UFC. Would I want to see it? meh, Id like to see anyone beat up Punk really, and if Conor did then I think it would put the loss to Nate in the past.

You're a little boy who doesn't understand the real world. You see, for UFC to exist they need something called money. For fighters to eat, train they need money. How do they get money? By selling PPVs. How do they sell PPVs? Not by headlining with Mighty Mouse and Edgar that's for sure.

The UFC was on its death bed until Ronda Rousey and Conor saved it. The average buy per PPV is 300k. The average buy per PPV with R/C is 1mil. The average PPV of Mighty Mouse/Edgar, 100k-200k.

This is why you're on Sherdog and not running a business.

Looks at join date, everything becomes clear.

And as a matter of fact I am running my own business, and making good money too... but I'll let you keep believing you're teaching me about the real world lol.

What are the PPV numbers for the NFL,MLB and NBA? PPV numbers are irrelevant to legitimate sports.

Sure thing little boy. Now run along and find your mommy.

I'll let you know as soon as you tell me when the UFC playoffs are starting.

Conor won't win the fight but it's still the smartest business move for the UFC. When Nate wins, it will propel him to a new stratosphere of stardom. He will, during the promotion of this fight be exposed to a ton of casuals in a new way and a ton of non-MMA fans. Nate isn't always likable but he is always intriguing. McGregor in the loss will retain his FW belt and the UFC will rebuild his name down there and it won't take long because of his acumen for promotion for him to recover... he wasn't an undefeated fighter anyway.
