It hit me today that, if Conor vacates his 145 belt because he no longer wants to fight FW (which I think is a legitimate possibility), then his first fight at 155 should be Case, assuming Case wins the fight he has coming up soon.

Case is a good fighter making a steady rise, and I think he's very underrated (UFC has him unranked but I think he is a top 10 talent already). He's young. He'd be a good test for Conor, and if Case wins then he gets a nice hypetrain of his own going at a good age to come on the scene. If Conor wins, then Conor gains some steam at 155 and Case has a perfectly acceptable loss on his record.

It's not going to break any PPV records, but I think it's a sensible fight for both guys.

Unfortunately the UFC does not believe in "sensible".

At least you recognize why it will never, ever happen.
Fair enough. I just think it might be a bad business decision to attempt to make every fight Conor is in be HUGE and against a big name. At some point the UFC has to find out where he is (in terms of weight class and talent) before getting his hype train rolling again. If they trot him out against Frankie or RDA and he gets demolished, then the UFC loses one of its best commodities without really gaining anything. At least if he loses to Case, that seems like a young, talented guy you can sell.

this fight will never happen. until conor loses a few in a row, he will only fight "names"
