McGregor V Khabib = Modern Day Liddell V Couture

Chuck had better wrestling (an actual background) than Conor.

Unless Conor can pull a GSP and become a dominant MMA wrestler, his only chance will always be a fast KO in the first round.

TS you are forgetting that Lidell was a college wrestler and had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better takedown defense than Conor. Also he may have been not quite as strong as Couture was in terms of pure strength the gap was not as large as with Mcgregor and Nurgo.

This is also why comparing Crocop vs Fedor is also different than Conor vs Nurgo because once again Crocop like Lidell had legendary takedown defense and in Mirko's case was freakishly strong for guy who only weighed 225-232 most of his career.

So in order to even begin to have a realistic chance vs Nurgo, Mcgregor would have to close 2 huge gaps: first the skill gap of wrestling and second the strength gap. Without PED's Conor is not going to magically get 25% stronger in 6 months. He would have to pull a Jon Jones; where he is roiding his ass off while being on "leave" for 12 months and focusing on strength training. That still would not account for the wrestling gap. Which he would have to focus on as well.

Lol Mcgregor wishes he had Liddell’s tdd.

Nobody commenting on the fact that Randy was about 2 weeks away from being 40 in the first fight, and 42 years old by the third time he fought Chuck?

Conor and the UFC both want money fights. Conor gets crushed again by Khabib and gets crushed by Kevin Lee. They are horrible matchups for him and will just continue to hurt his stock and draw power. The guy is 0-1 in MMA over the past 2 years and is 0-2 once factoring in the Mayweather match.

Conor is just too skinny and too weak for the current 155lb division considering his lack of grappling skill. Tony Ferguson has the best cardio and some of the best grappling at 155lbs to make up for his lack of physical strength which makes him dangerous for anyone.

Conor right now is #4 at 155 and his only decent matchup is vs Tony due to his wild style and need to trade on the feet. Conor at least is not the physically weaker fight in that fight which gives him a better shot of keeping it standing.

That said Conor does not like punishment. He is the classical ego maniac and super narcissist. His ego will empower him to try any challenge no matter how absurd and is key to his success and fame. But its been proven, the more he gets punished in the cage, he wilts. If he has to trade a punch to give a punch with Tony and gets dragged into a standup brawl like Pettis, Tony will win that battle.

Conor just let Khabib win to make more money...you guys know that right? Why....well,

Conor has a no defense of titles policy that he can not break. If he won then his next fight would be against some newb like Ferg. But by letting Khabib win he's now gonna play the Rocky III angle but fighting the Rocky IV opponent and generate tons of interest about how Irish never give up and can overcome anything. Then he comes back and fights normally garnering the super easy win over Khabib which it always was. Then everybody pays for his whisky cause everybody loves "an underdog" that he's fooled you into thinking he is against Khabib. He actually made the fight look like real and that Khabib was more than decent...Can't believe you all fell for it!

Exactly. It will be the same when 35 yr old Bader beats up 42 year old Fedor in January. It is an example of an old lion past their prime getting beat by the younger lion.

Big difference is Couture had heart and did not say the fighting of equivalent of "it's only a prank bro" when shit got to real for him.

"It's only business" = giving up.

Based on a sample size of 1. Everyone was was before the fight saying it could go either way but whatever way he went it would be a dominant win. A dominant win doesn't prove how often it would go out of a sample size of 10. All we can reasonably conclude is Khabib wins at least 1 out of 10 but he quite possibly lose 9/10 and this was that 1.

I don't know anybody that thought Connie had a chance. Many wanted him to win so he'd keep up his antics but the fight went as expected minus Khabib knocking Connie on his butt.

Randy was also a decade older. Also Chuck was a very accomplished wrestler

Liddell vs Couture fights were competitive,Khabib beats Conor 10 out of 10
Fighting doesn't work like that, unfortunately, otherwise Id be rich AF, especially a fighter coming off a two year lay off and having boxed the majority of that time. Conor has the skills to beat him, he just needs to be on point. People said the same exact thing after the Nate fight, but boy were we wrong. The fight was actually much closer than Silva Sonnen for when it lasted, but a brilliant fighter like Andy made adjustments and finished Chael in short order - there are blue prints for the striker to adapt to the wrestler.

Conor can make massive adaptations and has a great fighting brain that can make adaptations. He is also in uncharted territory having made 100 million boxing and in to all sorts of businesses like cutting fashion deals, running his media company and his new whiskey endeavor, so refocusing could do wonders.

I take Kav on his word and believe that Conor was not 100% and defied his advice to take a tune up fight before Khabib. There have been plenty of fights were lopsided and then the rematch went totally different, and lets not pretend like fight was like Barboza, or even RDA, where they mounted no successful offense and did not win a round. For sure tho, Khabib is an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, and it still has o be cracked. If Conor would get it done, I would say avoid TD at all cost and use the exact opposite game plan as before, which was to pressure Khabib like he did Mendes and be fine with giving up the TD; use the jab for distance, use better angles, look to counter and go back to a bare bone boxing game like he did vs Eddie. Khabib makes mistakes, but most people are too petrified of being taken down that their offense goes to crap..

when other fighters lose we don't hear this shit, poor Darren Till...

Conor's TDD and wrestling is nowhere close to where Liddell's was. Couture isn't nearly as dominant a grappler as Khabib is and his defense isn't nearly as good either. Khabib rarely gets hit and when he does it's almost always with glancing shots.
Khabib doesn't get hit after the takedown and he mauls people for a few minutes, makes them terrified of the takedown and the ramifications of going to the ground with someone that has his level of ground control.

Conor's gameplan was as silly as Tony's is going to be: surrender the takedown, play defense on the ground, wait for Khabib to diminish after two rounds of mauling you and then hope you have the pop to beat him on the feet. If you are going to beat Khabib, it has to be early. No one gets mauled by a guy like Cain for a few rounds and comes back: your arms are dead, you are exhausted, lactic acid galore and your body has been punished.

I still maintain Conor can win, and tho the odds are against him, a fresh Conor could put him on Queer Street and finish him. If Khabib threw that shot that knocked Conor down earlier, no way it lands, and he leaves himself vulnerable for countering. The odds are in Khabib's court, but everyone is beatable, and people consistently forget this is MMA.

Eloquently stated...but unconvincing.
And Conor doesnt have a real jab

Not even close. Liddell had an amazing TDD.

How do you think a fight between Chuck vs. Khabib would end if they fought nowadays? <45>
